And even though they were being sold for the ungodly sum of $1,018, all 666 pairs reportedly sold out within a minute after dropping on Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       The remodeled red and black kicks feature an inverted cross, a bronze pentagram charm and a drop of human blood in the mid-sole. The sneakers also include the biblical reference <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/biblehub.com\/luke\/10-18.htm\" class=\"icon none\">\u201cLuke 10:18\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 which marks the Bible passage that says, \u201cI saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>These symbols are often associated with satanism\u00a0and offended many people on Twitter<br \/>\n        TWTR,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/203180645\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-0.10%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       on Monday, leading \u201cSatan Shoes\u201d and \u201cLil Nas X\u201d to trend through the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the remodeled sneakers still prominently feature Nike\u2019s signature Swoosh on the side, leading many offended followers to threaten to boycott the brand.<\/p>\n<p>The critics included Republican Gov. Kristi Noem of South Dakota, who tweeted her dismay that kids could buy into the product because it was listed as \u201cexclusive,\u201d and warned, \u201cWe are in a fight for the soul of our nation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<div data-layout=\"inline\n                \" data-layout-mobile=\"\" class=\"\n          media-object\n          type-InsetTweet\n            inline\n    scope-web|mobileapps\n  article__inset\n          article__inset--type-InsetTweet\n            article__inset--inline\n  \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"dynamic-inset-container article__inset__dynamic\">\n<style>\n            iframe.twitter-tweet {\n                width: 100% !important;\n            }\n        <\/style>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p>\n            <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/govkristinoem\/status\/1376239196709478400?s=20\"><\/a>\n            <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>        <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       Nike included several such comments in its <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nyed.461880\/gov.uscourts.nyed.461880.1.0.pdf\" class=\"icon none\">lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in New York on Monday<\/a>, which alleges that the Brooklyn-based MSCHF Product Studio Inc infringed on and diluted its trademark, and that these modified sneakers have hurt the company\u2019s reputation. \u201cIn the short time since the announcement of the Satan Shoes, Nike has suffered significant harm to its goodwill, including among consumers who believe that Nike is endorsing satanism,\u201d the complaint reads.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that Lil Nas X is not named as a defendant in the suit.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the online comments that Nike shared in its court filing include one person saying, \u201cThis is sickening!!! How is Nike not involved when there\u2019s a Nike symbol on the shoe!!!\u201d And \u201cJesus please save us!!!! Never supporting or buying Nike again!!!!\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nike is asking the judge to \u201cimmediately and permanently\u201d\u00a0stop MSCHF from filling any orders for the Satan Shoe. Register for MarketWatch\u2019s free live event<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The company told MarketWatch in a statement over email that it doesn\u2019t have any further details to share on pending legal matters. \u201cHowever, we can tell you we do not have a relationship with Lil Nas X or MSCHF,\u201d he added. \u201cThe Satan Shoes were produced without\u00a0Nike\u2019s approval or authorization, and\u00a0Nike\u00a0is in no way connected with this project.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>MSCHF was not immediately available for comment. <\/p>\n<p>Lil Nas X has been vocal about the controversy on social media, however.  He tweeted back at Gov.
