“#Rocky Prequel Series<\/a> Being Written by Sylvester Stallone \u2013 \/Film<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Sylvester Stallone<\/strong> has a hard time letting go of his iconic characters. Just when you think we\u2019ve seen the last of\u00a0Rocky<\/em><\/strong> or\u00a0Rambo<\/em>, Stallone finds an excuse to bring them back (I\u2019m surprised he hasn\u2019t made a\u00a0Cobra<\/em> sequel yet, honestly). And while you might think the Rocky<\/em>\u00a0series has run its course, especially with Rocky\u2019s character finding some closure at the end of\u00a0Creed II<\/em>, you\u2019re wrong, at least according to Stallone. The actor-writer-director has revealed he\u2019s thinking of making a\u00a0Rocky<\/em> prequel series that will \u201ctransport us back to the origins of Rocky.\u201d But here\u2019s the thing \u2013 we already know the origins of Rocky. We saw them in\u00a0Rocky<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Will Rocky step back into the ring? Sylvester Stallone sure hopes so. Michael B. Jordan is set to direct\u00a0Creed III<\/em>, and so far, none of the news<\/a> about that upcoming film has mentioned Stallone or Rocky, which suggests the actor and character might not be coming back. That makes sense \u2013 it feels as if Rocky has nothing more to teach Adonis Creed. And\u00a0Creed II<\/em> concluded with Rocky reuniting with his estranged son \u2013 a moment that felt like closure for Rocky as a character. If Stallone were wise about this he\u2019d let that be the end of the Italian Stallion. But as I said above, Stallone has a hard time letting go. And he\u00a0really<\/em> wants to bring Rocky back.
\nThe actor recently took to\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0and revealed that he\u2019s working on a\u00a0Rocky<\/em> prequel series, ideally for a streaming service. \u201cI started out this morning by writing a treatment for a Rocky<\/em> prequel for streaming,\u201d Stallone wrote. He added that the show would \u201cideally\u201d be 10 episodes and \u201ca few seasons\u201d to get to the \u201cheart of the characters\u201d in their younger years. He continued: \u201cImagine a time machine that will simply transport us back to the origins of Rocky\u2026a cinematic world brimming with characters that have been beloved by people around the world for nearly five decades!\u201d<\/p>\n

Look, I like the\u00a0Rocky<\/em> movies, and I like Stallone. But we do\u00a0not<\/em>\u00a0<\/em>need something devoted to the \u201corigins of Rocky\u201d because we already have that in the form of the first\u00a0Rocky<\/em> movie. That film showed Rocky at the very beginning of his career, and how he went from a local boxer and loan shark bruiser to a major contender. What would a prequel to that even be about? And who would play Rocky? Stallone clearly can\u2019t play the character if it\u2019s a prequel \u2013 unless he wants to go an\u00a0Irishman<\/em> route and digitally de-age himself.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that Stallone has been talking about potential new\u00a0Rocky<\/em> material for a while. In 2019, Stallone first brought up this potential prequel idea, and also threw in a potential sequel for good measure. The sequel idea had\u00a0Rocky meeting \u201ca young, angry person who got stuck in this country when he comes to see his sister. He takes him into his life, and unbelievable adventures begin, and they wind up south of the border.\u201d<\/p>\n

None of this sounds ideal to me, but I\u2019m sure there are hardcore\u00a0Rocky<\/em> fans out there who are more than ready for all of this. Whether or not any of it actually happ<\/a>ens remains to be seen.<\/p>\n
