\n With less than three weeks to go before Opening Day is scheduled, Aaron Boone wants the Yankees to get as many \u201clive reps\u2019\u2019 as possible, which is why they will play their first intrasquad game<\/a> of spring training 2.0 Monday night.<\/p>\n

J.A. Happ<\/a> and right-handed prospect Clarke Schmidt are scheduled to start the 7 p.m. game, with Gerrit Cole slated to start in another intrasquad game on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a shorter amount of time [to prepare], we want pitchers in game action and build up pitch counts,\u2019\u2019 Aaron Boone said. \u201cWe\u2019ll go easy as far as running and getting out of the box.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boone added the Yankees are \u201chopeful\u201d they will get in \u201ca few\u201d exhibition games prior to the 60-game regular season.<\/p>\n

\n<\/hr>\n

The Yankees are without DJ LeMahieu and Luis Cessa, who both tested positive for COVID-19 and are self-isolating outside New York.<\/p>\n

LeMahieu has been asymptomatic, while Cessa has experienced \u201cvery mild symptoms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boone said Saturday he was \u201chopeful\u201d the two would only be out a short time.<\/p>\n

James Paxton was on the Major League Baseball Players Association executive subcommittee during the labor dispute, which many fear was just a preview of what could be a contentious negotiation when the collective bargaining agreement expires following next season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll see how things go,\u2019\u2019 Paxton said Sunday after throwing a simulated game. \u201cWe stood our ground and fought for what we believe in and ended up where we are right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

The players association refused to play the season without full prorated pay per game, while owners hoped to pay them a portion of their pro-rated salaries because of a dip in revenue.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did a good job sticking together,\u2019\u2019 Paxton said. \u201cOur group was very united. We knew what we wanted and what we thought was fair and stuck to that.\u201d<\/p>\n

He called the experience \u201cvery educational.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was helpful, even though we wish we didn\u2019t have to go through what we went through,\u2019\u2019 Paxton said.<\/p>\n

Gleyber Torres continued his work at shortstop Sunday. His transition back to his original position was stalled by the COVID-19 shutdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel pretty good these first couple of days [of camp],\u2019\u2019 said Torres, who was in Tampa for part of the shutdown. \u201cDuring the quarantine, I prepared myself well. There were not too many options for fields. I [watched] a lot of videos of myself, trying to get ready for shortstop.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
