Nickelodeon isn\u2019t taking any chances with this nautical nonsense.<\/p>\n

The network announced on Tuesday that they decided to pull an upcoming episode of \u201cSpongeBob SquarePants,\u201d now in its 12th season, due to a \u201cvirus storyline\u201d that may upset viewers traumatized by the pandemic. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe \u2018Kwarantined Crab\u2019 centers on a virus storyline, so we have decided to not air it due to sensitivities surrounding the global, real-world pandemic,\u201d Nickelodeon told Deadline in a statement<\/a>, following speculation on IGN<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the unaired episode, a Bikini Bottom health inspector identifies a case of the \u201cClam Flu\u201d at the Krusty Krab diner and decides to quarantine customers inside the restaurant. No further details about the premise were provided.<\/p>\n

The move to self-censor comes just days after a Slate reporter revealed<\/a> that 11 minutes of footage had disapp<\/a>eared from a \u201cclassic\u201d episode of the animated series<\/a> during its third season, called \u201cMid-Life Crustacean.\u201d Viewers suspect the omission has to do with a scene in which SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs and Patrick plan a \u201cpanty raid\u201d through the underwear drawer of, incidentally, Mr. Krabs\u2019 mother. <\/p>\n

Fans have also noticed that an 11-minute episode, called \u201cMid-Life Crustacean,\u201d is also missing from streaming platforms. <\/figcaption>

Nostalgic fans have griped about its absence on social media<\/a> amidst excitement over the entire \u201cSpongebob\u201d catalog being added to the Paramount+ streaming app. Amazon Prime, where the show also streams, has since followed suit, according to Slate. <\/p>\n

In a statement to The Post, Nickelodeon said it pulled the episode years ago after deeming it inappropriate for children.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Mid-Life Crustacean\u2019 has been out of rotation since 2018, following a standards review in which we determined some story elements were not kid-appropriate,\u201d a rep said.<\/p>\n
