\n This coronavirus protection is pure gold.<\/p>\n

An Indian businessman is going viral after paying $4,000 to have a face mask made out of the pricey precious metal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a thin mask and has tiny pores that is helping me to breathe,\u201d Shankar Kurhade, 49, of Pune, told Agence France-Presse.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople are asking me for selfies,\u201d he said. \u201cThey are awestruck when they see me wearing the gold mask in markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kurhade, whose company makes industrial sheds, told the Indian Express that he \u201cdidn\u2019t do it for publicity\u201d \u2014 but said the mask probably isn\u2019t the best choice to fight the contagion.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am not sure if it will be effective to protect me from a coronavirus infection,\u201d he admitted to AFP about the mask that weighs two ounces.<\/p>\n

The businessman said he\u2019s \u201ctaking other precautions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not the gold or cloth mask, but social<\/a> distancing and hand washing that will protect human beings from coronavirus,\u201d he told the Indian Express.<\/p>\n

India has made face masks mandatory in public places in a bid to control the pandemic. As of Monday morning, the country had almost 700,000 confirmed cases with close to 20,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
