Super Mario passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021. Born in 1985, he is survived by his brother Luigi and partner Princess Peach. <\/p>\n

That, at least, is according to Twitter. The video game<\/a> icon\u2019s name was trending on the site Wednesday morning, as fans mourned the removal of several classic Super Mario games from the Nintendo store.<\/p>\n

More than 150,000 tweets<\/a> snarking about the loss of the animated mustachioed plumber flooded the platform in less than 24 hours.<\/p>\n

In September, Nintendo re-launched classic games \u201cSuper Mario 3D All-Stars,\u201d \u201cSuper Mario Bros. 35\u201d for its Switch console, to celebrate the franchise\u2019s 35th anniversary.<\/p>\n

After Wednesday, those games, as well as other anniversary products released by the brand, will no longer be available to purchase digitally or physically once product runs out, CNN reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n

While \u201c3D All-Stars\u201d will still be playable after Wednesday \u2014 as long as you\u2019ve download<\/a>ed the game to your console \u2014 \u201cSuper Mario Bros. 35\u201d will not, Nintendo previously announced<\/a> in a special alert titled \u201cImportant information regarding the end of Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3,\u201d a 1990 cartoon show, will be leaving Netflix Wednesday as well. However, it will be moving to Paramount+<\/a>, reported What\u2019s on Netflix<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Mario also lives on in many Nintendo Switch games, such as \u201cMario Kart\u201d and \u201cSuper Mario Party.\u201d<\/p>\n

But that didn\u2019t stop Twit wits from paying their last respects. Many franchise fans referred to March 31 as the day of Mario\u2019s \u201cpublic execution.\u201d <\/p>\n

Twitter user Nathaniel Bandy tweeted<\/a> Tuesday night: \u201cMario dies tomorrow, I\u2019m gonna miss him :(\u201d \u2014 helping spark a frenzy of memorials.<\/p>\n

\u201cMario 35? more like mario 35 hours left,\u201d joked @TAHK0<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cBye-Bye to Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Mario 35, and most importantly, Mario himself! See ya at the execution!\u201d posted @NS_Worm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe time has come, Luigi is the star now,\u201d @SuperMarioOOC85<\/a> chimed in.<\/p>\n
