Early last year, a rumor surfaced that Jar Jar Binks, notorious Gungan military commander and politician and arguably the most hated character in\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>, would be making his illustrious return to the galaxy far, far away in the\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em><\/strong> TV series<\/a>. Jar Jar, after all, was instrumental in the fall of the Republic and was a frequent companion of Obi-Wan and co. throughout the prequels. But contrary to reports of Jar Jar\u2019s return, and rumors that a new bushy beard that would accompany him, it seems that the Gungan will not be making an appearance in Disney+\u2019s\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Actor Ahmed Best<\/strong>, who portrayed Jar Jar Binks throughout the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em> prequel films, confirmed that he will not make an appearance in the Disney+\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em> series.
\n\u201cThanks for the love, but I will not be in this series,\u201d Best said. \u201cAs much as I would\u2019ve loved to be a part of it. But I\u2019m ecstatic to see folks who I love dearly back together doing great things.\u201d<\/p>\n

This shuts down the rumors flying around in January last year that a bearded Jar Jar Binks would pop up in\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em>, \u201cto reflect where he\u2019s been and what his life has been like since they were all deceived by a great lie that ushered in the first Galactic Empire.\u201d While it\u2019s possible that Best is lying to preserve those heavily guarded Lucasfilm secrets, or that Jar Jar could be played by another actor, this appears to be a pretty cut-and-dry denial.<\/p>\n

However, it\u2019s not surprising that Best wouldn\u2019t want to return to the role that earned him so much ire. Best\u00a0struggled with depression for years thanks to an onslaught of negative treatment from \u201cfans\u201d who harassed him for his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks. However, the actor has already been welcomed back into the\u00a0Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0family\u00a0as the host of a game<\/a> show called\u00a0Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge<\/em>\u00a0and appears to harbor no ill will toward the franchise,\u00a0reposting<\/a>\u00a0Lucasfilm\u2019s picture with the\u00a0Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em> cast announcement and congratulating the crew.
\nIn the end, whatever that Gungan has been up to in the 10 years since\u00a0Revenge of the Sith<\/em>\u00a0is probably best left a mystery. Maybe he\u2019s just living his best Gungan life, eating succulent skewered frogs and wandering into political crises.<\/p>\n

Obi-Wan Kenobi<\/em> stars\u00a0Ewan McGregor<\/strong>\u00a0as the Jedi Master and is written by\u00a0Joby Harold<\/strong> and directed by\u00a0Deborah Chow<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The story begins 10 years after the dramatic events of\u00a0Star Wars:\u00a0Revenge of the Sith<\/em>\u00a0where Kenobi faced his greatest defeat, the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker turned evil Sith Lord Darth Vader<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
