“#Patti Smith Starts Substack for Essays, Music, and More<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Patti Smith has joined Substack<\/a>. The singer-songwriter and author announced her upcoming subscript<\/a>ion-based news<\/a>letter in a video on Instagram, in which she said the new weekly venture will contain original photos, essays on books and movies<\/a>, and more. There will also be a paid subscription option that gives access to The Melting<\/em>, a serial that Smith wrote over the past year in quarantine that she\u2019s described as a \u201cjournal of [her] private pandemic.\u201d Check out the announcement below and subscribe to Smith\u2019s newsletter at Substack<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In an intro letter<\/a>, Smith described the newsletter in further detail. \u201cThrough Substack I plan to form an inter-connective body of work for a responsive community,\u201d she wrote. \u201cEach week I will post my weekly ruminations, shards of poetry, music, and musings on whatever subject finds its way from thought to pen, news of the mind, pieces of this world, free to all.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Smith performed a private concert at the Brooklyn Museum as a thank-you to the institution\u2019s employees. Last year, she was awarded the 2020 PEN Literary Service Award.<\/p>\n
