Vaccination sites are going viral: People are posting their shot hot spots \u2014 the weirder the better \u2014 all over Twitter<\/a> and Instagram.<\/p>\n

Since the COVID-19 vaccine rollout began in January, federal and local governments have been partnering with private businesses to make sure the shot is available to the greatest number of people as quickly and easily as possible.<\/p>\n

This explains why one might find themselves on line at, say, a department store, sports arena or the tri-county fairgrounds \u2014 and not the doctor\u2019s office \u2014 waiting for immunization.<\/p>\n

In Maryland, for example<\/a>, Six Flags America in Bowie was selected to be a mass vaccination site, thanks to robust infrastructure to allow for the influx of guests and access to cold storage.<\/p>\n

And if getting the jab next to the high-flying Mind Eraser rollercoaster isn\u2019t surreal enough, recent vaccine recipients on social media have shared a gallery of images from their unexpected vaccine sites.<\/p>\n

\u201ci got vaccinated in an abandoned kmart. my friend is getting her shot in a minor league baseball stadium (\u2018home of the long island ducks\u2019). another friend in dodger stadium,\u201d tweeted writer Michael Robbins on Tuesday<\/a>. <\/p>\n

some vax sites mentioned in the replies: charlotte russe, disneyland, shuttered best buy, “an old speedway,” football stadium, fairgrounds, “extremely ugly pub,” megachurch, shopping mall<\/p>\n

His message has prompted hundreds to respond, some calling the experience \u201cdystopian<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an abandoned Sears for me,\u201d said one person<\/a>, joining with the large cohort of recipients who got the vaccine in out-of-business or otherwise deserted businesses, such as the mall mainstay Charlotte Russe<\/a>, the empty \u201chusk\u201d of a former Nordstrom<\/a>, a now-defunct Shopko<\/a> supermarket \u2014 which went out of business in 2019 \u2014 and a closed movie theatre, \u201cright next to to the nachos,\u201d one wrote<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In what one Twitter user called<\/a> \u201cthe most Texas thing ever,\u201d they revealed that their parents had gone to the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth for inoculation. Many others chimed in to say they\u2019d visited various other sporting arenas, too, such as a hockey arena<\/a>, soccer stadium<\/a> or a local gymnasium<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Some of the responses were unsettling, too. One person claimed<\/a> that a National Guardsman had administered their dose \u201cin the visitation room of the same prison where Mike Tyson served time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Churches, libraries, bars, schools and even a snowplow storage garage<\/a> were also among the many vaccination sites discussed in the viral Twitter thread, which has over 38,000 likes and several hundred responses. <\/p>\n

As of Tuesday afternoon, 148 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered in the US,\u00a0according to Bloomberg\u2019s live tracker<\/a>, with an average of about 2.77 million shots per day since January.<\/p>\n
