Jack Reynor<\/strong>, AKA the guy who got stuffed into a bear at the end of\u00a0Midsommar<\/em>, has joined the cast of\u00a0The Peripheral<\/em><\/strong>, a new Amazon series<\/a> from\u00a0Westworld<\/em> creators Jonathan Nolan<\/strong> and Lisa Joy<\/strong>.\u00a0The Peripheral<\/em> also stars\u00a0Chlo\u00eb Grace Moretz<\/strong> and Gary Carr<\/strong>\u00a0and is based on a sci-fi novel from\u00a0William Gibson, described as \u201ca dazzling, hallucinatory glimpse into the fate of mankind \u2014 and what lies beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n

Deadline has revealed that Jack Reynor has joined\u00a0the Peripheral<\/em> cast alongside\u00a0Chlo\u00eb Grace Moretz and Gary Carr. The Amazon series comes from William Gibson\u2019s book of the same name, and has\u00a0Westworld<\/em> creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy at the helm. The show follows \u201cFlynne (Moretz) and her brother Burton (Reynor), a veteran of the United States Marine Corps\u2019 elite Haptic Recon force [who] is hired for a security job which takes place in what he thinks is cyberspace. When Flynne temporarily takes his place, she witnesses something that might have been murder.\u201d
\nThat\u2019s very vague sounding, so here\u2019s the full synopsis of the book to shed more light on the matter:<\/p>\n

Flynne Fisher lives down a country road, in a rural America where jobs are scarce, unless you count illegal drug manufacture, which she\u2019s trying to avoid. Her brother Burton lives on money from the Veterans Administration, for neurological damage suffered in the Marines\u2019 elite Haptic Recon unit. Flynne earns what she can by assembling product at the local 3D printshop. She made more as a combat scout in an online game<\/a>, playing for a rich man, but she\u2019s had to let the shooter games go.<\/em><\/p>\n

Wilf Netherton lives in London, seventy-some years later, on the far side of decades of slow-motion apocalypse. Things are pretty good now, for the haves, and there aren\u2019t many have-nots left. Wilf, a high-powered publicist and celebrity-minder, fancies himself a romantic misfit, in a society where reaching into the past is just another hobby.<\/em><\/p>\n

Burton\u2019s been moonlighting online, secretly working security in some game prototype, a virtual world that looks vaguely like London, but a lot weirder. He\u2019s got Flynne taking over shifts, promised her the game\u2019s not a shooter. Still, the crime she witnesses there is plenty bad.<\/em><\/p>\n

Flynne and Wilf are about to meet one another. Her world will be altered utterly, irrevocably, and Wilf\u2019s, for all its decadence and power, will learn that some of these third-world types from the past can be badass.<\/em>
\nThat certainly sounds metaphysical and labyrinthine enough to app<\/a>eal to Nolan and Joy\u2019s work on\u00a0Westworld<\/em>. Of course,\u00a0Westworld<\/em> also kind of went off the rails in subsequent seasons, so there\u2019s no guarantee\u00a0The Peripheral<\/em> will go over well. Nolan and Joy will executive produce the series, with Vincenzo Natali directing, and Greg Plageman serving as executive producer and showrunner.<\/p>\n
