\n Charlie Puth took to Twitter<\/a> on Sunday (July 5) to make an impassioned plea to BTS fans to back off what he calls a \u201cdangerous, toxic internet screaming match between \u2018fandoms.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

The singer-songwriter was responding to fans of the BTS ARMY, as the K-pop group\u2019s legions of followers are known, who seemingly spammed several of his TikTok posts with comments teasing the singer. \u201cRemember when you used Jungkook for clout?,\u201d wrote one, referencing the 22-year-old BTS member. Other posts claimed Puth used BTS for \u201cfame.\u201d<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t usually pay any mind to things like this, but something has to be said. This dangerous, toxic, internet screaming match between \u2018fandoms\u2019 has to stop. I\u2019m 28 years old, so it doesn\u2019t really mean anything to me when some person I don\u2019t know writes a nasty message to me\u2026<\/p>\n

The beef confused the Rumson, NJ native, who had performed a duet of \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk Anymore\u201d with Jungkook at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards in 2018. He praised the group\u2019s talent and pleaded for a truce.<\/p>\n

Wrote Puth: \u201cI don\u2019t usually pay any mind to things like this, but something has to be said. \u2026 I\u2019m 28 years old, so it doesn\u2019t really mean anything to me when some person I don\u2019t know writes a nasty message to me saying things like \u2018I used BTS for clout.\u2019 I don\u2019t know what that means \u2014 I love those guys and they are super talented.\u201c His message was retweeted 10,000 times within three hours.<\/p>\n

Noting how such comments could affect those struggling with mental health and bullying, Puth added, \u201cWhat I do know is that 10 years ago, language like this directed towards me would\u2019ve affected me deeply in a very negative way. And I\u2019m thinking about all the other younger kids on twitter seeing stuff like this on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n

In conclusion, he wrote: \u201cIt may sound cliche, but please be nicer to each other on here. No more screaming about made up nonsense. It does nobody any good. We all need to love each other MORE THAN EVER RIGHT NOW.\u201c<\/p>\n

BTS\u2019 Twitter fans reacted with some confusion, citing a difference between the group\u2019s Twitter and TikTok fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cHi Charlie,\u201d wrote fan Melodymostly2. \u201cI apologize on behalf of the mature ARMY. This is so embarrassing and thank you for being mature about this topic against you. Hope that you still have good eyes towards BTS. The fan doesn\u2019t reflect their artist 100% which i\u2019m sure u understand. Thank you and be happ<\/a>y.\u201d<\/p>\n

With BTS\u2019 2020 stadium tour postponed due to the coronavirus, the group \u2014 which is comprised of members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook \u2014 recently live-streamed its own \u201cBang Bang Con: The Live\u201d event. The intimate presentation included a 14-song setlist that paid homage to BTS\u2019 seven years together,\u00a0 from the group\u2019s earliest recordings (2014\u2019s rap ballad \u201cJust One Day\u201d) to selections from its current hit album, \u201cMap of the Soul: 7.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
