The Emmy Award-winning woman who was found mummified and buried under a pile of garbage in her Queens home Tuesday was a beloved neighbor whose friends were concerned about her well being for months.<\/p>\n

Evelyn Sakash, 66, was found surrounded by debris in the house after her sister hired a cleaning crew to clear out her College Point home to see if she was inside.<\/p>\n

Neighbor Laraine Memola, 68, told The Post that she had a gut feeling about her good friend\u2019s demise \u2014 and insisted police search the house in October.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody told me I was wrong, because I knew she was in there. I knew it. And I begged them,\u201d Memola said. \u201cI begged the detectives working on the case to go in there. They guaranteed me she wasn\u2019t in there.\u201d<\/p>\n

Memola\u00a0said she met Sakash \u2014 a television, film and Broadway production designer \u2014 at a College Point VFW, and later moved right across the street from her. The duo became fast friends soon after.<\/p>\n

\u201cI conversed with her on almost a daily basis and she was just compassionate, loving, giving to both people and animals,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Memola, a former Radio City Music Hall Rockette, said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have never known a more pure gentle kind-hearted spirit. And I hate to see a lot of the negativity that is being spread or written because of the hoarding.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two always hung out in public, and\u00a0Memola\u00a0said she was in the dark about Sakash\u2019s deadly habit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know that Evelyn \u2026 I never went in her house, so I didn\u2019t know she was doing all that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Sakash skipped grades in school and graduated Queens College with high honors, according to her friend.<\/p>\n

She worked on dozens of notable sets since the mid 1980s, winning an Emmy for her work on \u201cBetween the Lions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The production expert also dressed stages on Broadway,\u00a0Memola\u00a0said. But that work dried up with the rest of show business at the start of the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Memola, and dozens of friends in a private Facebook<\/a> group called \u201cEvelyn We Love You,\u201d have been agonizing over Sakash\u2019s disapp<\/a>earance since October. When the bad news<\/a> came Tuesday night, Memora was in a enough of a frenzied state to require hospitalization.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got so upset last night when all this was discovered. And it was what I said and no one addressed it,\u201d\u00a0Memola\u00a0said, referring to her October preminiation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was tired. I was walking and I just fell in the middle of the street.\u00a0 I was so upset and I had to go to the hospital, and I have a small fracture in my arm,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\u201cI do feel good that we got the closure but I don\u2019t feel good about the outcome,\u201d the friend said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a wonderful spirit, a wonderful soul. Always loving and giving.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
