“#CNN ridiculed for saying ‘no consensus for assigning sex at birth’<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

CNN is being ridiculed online for insisting there is \u201cno consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth\u201d \u2014 with critics telling the network to \u201clook just below the waist\u201d for insight.<\/p>\n

The left-leaning network\u2019s statement was quickly shared online after it app<\/a>eared in a news<\/a> story Wednesday about South Dakota banning transgender athletes from women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not possible to know a person\u2019s gender identity at birth, and there is no consensus criteria for assigning sex at birth,\u201d CNN\u2019s Devan Cole wrote.<\/p>\n

Critics quickly ripped the outlet for reporting it as straight fact, rather than attributing it to others and noting differing views.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve gotten used to a lot of woke craziness. Never thought I\u2019d see biological sex in scare quotes,\u201d a Twitter<\/a>-user named Holden wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cCNN isn\u2019t a news organization. They are straight up activists<\/a>,\u201d online media critic Lee Sobotka wrote, while conservative commentator Ben Shapiro said only an \u201cidiot\u201d<\/a> would believe the network\u2019s claim.<\/p>\n

Others suggested a simple solution. \u201cI\u2019m not a doctor, @CNN but if you look just below the waist you may get some insight,\u201d Craig Seymour wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following the backlash, with many tagging the network in tweets, CNN later altered <\/a>the wording \u201cto provide additional explanation as to the distinctions between gender and sex\u201d \u2014 but in a way far from appeasing critics.<\/p>\n

The offending section now reads, \u201cIt\u2019s not possible to know a person\u2019s gender identity at birth, and for some people, the sex listed on their original birth certificate is a misleading way of describing the body they have.\u201d<\/p>\n
