\n The number of people shot in New York City more than tripled last week compared to the same period in 2019, police sources said Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Between Monday, June 29 and Sunday, July 5, the city saw 74 shooting incidents with 101 victims, the sources said. That\u2019s compared to 26 shootings with 33 victims during that time last year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, 18 people were murdered in the city last week \u2014 six more than during the same period last year.<\/p>\n

Sunday alone, there were 30 shooting incidents with 48 victims \u2014 nine of whom were killed, the sources said.<\/p>\n

That includes at least seven people who were shot, five fatally, in a span of about three hours Sunday night in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Staten Island.<\/p>\n

Police early Monday identified one of the victims as Anthony Robinson, 29, of Brooklyn, who was fatally blasted in the chest on East 170th Street near Sheridan Avenue in the Claremont section of the Bronx around 5:50 p.m.<\/p>\n

He was pronounced dead at BronxCare Health System.<\/p>\n

The motive for the shooting was not immedia<\/a>tely clear.<\/p>\n

Just after 8 p.m., three men were shot on East 171st Street near College Avenue \u2014 two blocks away from the earlier fatal shooting.<\/p>\n

A 22-year-old man who was shot in the chest and a 27-year-old man who took a bullet to the neck were pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital, police said.<\/p>\n

The other victim, a 29-year-old, was shot in the arm. He was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.<\/p>\n

A 15-year-old boy was also injured in a Harlem shooting Sunday evening.<\/p>\n

This continues a surge in gunplay the city has seen in recent weeks \u2014 the NYPD tallied 63 shootings June 22-28 \u2014 up from 26 over the same one-week period last year.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
