Former \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d actress-turned-porn-star Maitland Ward is making her return to TV after embarking on a career in the adult film industry \u2014 and has big plans to straddle both worlds.<\/p>\n

Ward, 44, is starring in and producing a new comedy series<\/a> called \u201cThe Big Time,\u201d centering around a \u201cworld-famous adult superstar\u201d \u2014 which, as an award-winning skin flick star, she certainly knows a thing or two about.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Big Time\u201d marks Ward\u2019s return to the small screen after her leap into the porn industry in 2019, nearly 20 years after \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d ended. Though her next project will be an unprecedented shift from mainstream to porn and back again, this babe is not saying goodbye to the X-rated scene any time soon.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to slay both industries,\u201d Ward told The Post. \u201cI love and embrace both. Me being bold and free in my sexuality and so out there with it has really given me that power. When I was like this innocent flower, I was letting everyone else dictate what I should do or what I should be.\u201d<\/p>\n

While some may stick their noses up at her day job, the redheaded bombshell says it unleashed passion within herself \u2014 not just passion for the cameras.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen people always say, \u2018Oh porn\u2019s going to ruin you. You\u2019ll never be seen by mainstream again. Nobody will ever want to hire you and porn will ruin it,\u2019 \u201d she said, \u201cit\u2019s given me my acting career back. It really has.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beyond playing Rachel McGuire on the beloved ABC show, which wrapp<\/a>ed in 2000, she\u2019s done several pilots and an \u201cindie\u201d movie or two, but her last role on TV was in 2007 on \u201cRules of Engagement\u201d as a sexy siren alongside David Spade.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a long time ago, I had left the television world behind,\u201d she said, citing the reason as being constantly labeled as the girl \u201cfrom that kids\u2019 show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I wanted to be sexy, I\u2019d hear, \u2018Oh, no, you\u2019re too hot for that.\u2019 And in a lot of auditions, they would only see me as this \u2018Boy Meets World\u2019 type of person and they wouldn\u2019t see me any way else,\u201d she said. \u201cI love doing comedy. I just got tired of being typecast, and only seen for certain kinds of roles when I wanted to do so much more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, she\u2019s getting to fuse both loves. Her new passion project, which is in development with Leaving Normal Productions, caught Ward\u2019s eye for being not only \u201csex-positive,\u201d but also an example of art imitating life. Brett Azar of NBC\u2019s\u00a0\u201cYoung Rock\u201d\u00a0is also set to co-star in the show, which will begin shooting in May in New York.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe writers came to me with the idea,\u201d Ward said. \u201cWhen I read their concept and everything in their original script, it was so sex-positive and fun. My character was based on me really because \u2026 it\u2019s just my kind of persona.\u201d <\/p>\n

The show follows Ward\u2019s character who, after a successful career in X-rated films, has been tapped to \u201csave a waning film studio on the brink of collapse.\u201d In an \u201cOdd Couple\u201d-like pairing, she teams with a \u201cnerdy aspiring writer and mama\u2019s boy\u201d who will provide a new perspective on her \u201csteamy\u201d scenes and help fluff the struggling studio\u2019s image.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to have nudity, but it is going to be light-hearted,\u201d Ward said. \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be like, bubblegum.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show is being written by \u201cLeaving Normal\u201d duo Mikey Rodriguez and Zerelda Nothnagel, who said Ward brings \u201cinvaluable insight and authenticity to a subject that is often misunderstood.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, Ward believes there has been a shift in what people desire to watch on the screen beyond formulaic sitcoms thanks to streaming platforms like Netflix, which struck gold with \u201cBridgerton\u201d \u2014 a successful show that embraces and showcases nudity as well as diversity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think people want to see all different stories and they don\u2019t want to be boxed into the old and beholden to the studio system,\u201d she said. \u201cWe were relying a lot on an old system where the network executives made all of the decisions about who would get jobs, who would become the stars, what storylines, shows, everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the 18 months since Ward transitioned to adult acting, she has won<\/a> five Adult Video News (AVN) awards \u2014 which are akin to the Oscars for porn \u2014 and six XBIZ Awards.<\/p>\n

She may even have a \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d parody \u201csituation\u201d in store for her true fans.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m writing a few things,\u201d she said, declining to share the dirty details. \u201cBut it definitely is going to have the audience very excited.\u201d <\/p>\n

Though she\u2019s spoken at length about how porn has treated her better than Hollywood, Ward says friends and former mainstream colleagues \u2014 including her former \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d co-stars \u2014 have been supportive of her X-rated career, too. <\/p>\n

\u201cI had lunch with Trina [McGee] just a little bit ago,\u201d she said of the actress who played Angela Moore. \u201cShe\u2019s really been very supportive the entire way.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Will Friedle, who played her roommate Eric Matthews on the show, he\u2019s not one of the millions drooling over her sexy movies.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u00a0had run into Will at a Comic-Con and he was so funny,\u201d she recalled. \u201cHis first comment was like, \u2018Are you happy?\u2019 I said yes, and he\u2019s like, \u2018That\u2019s all I care about but I\u2019m not watching any of your movies!\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n

Ward thought it was hilarious. \u201cIt\u2019s like saying you don\u2019t want to see your sister,\u201d she laughed, \u201cbut you know what\u2019s happening. You don\u2019t want to watch the sex parts.\u201d<\/p>\n

But her experience in the adult realm is helpful for a show centering around porn, and as a producer, she\u2019s been advising about the realities of set-life so the show gets it right. One such instance may shock the uninitiated but is an ordinary occurrence as an adult film actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody will be naked and hanging around the food table and talking \u2014 but naked. It\u2019s like it\u2019s a total normal experience on a porn set,\u201d she explained. \u201cYou\u2019re not like thinking anything sexual. You\u2019re just eating your lunch.\u201d<\/p>\n

In addition to silly moments, Ward said \u201cThe Big Time\u201d will shed a light on the \u201cfamily environment\u201d in the adult industry, which is \u201ca tight-knit community.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody really cares about each other, and I think that\u2019s going to be something that people don\u2019t expect from a relationship at a studio for porn,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s also been on a mission to take away the stigma from pornography. In addition to several films for high-end adult film giant Deeper and\u00a0Vixen Media Group<\/a>, she has an OnlyFans account dedicated to making connections with fans \u2014 of the \u201cBoy Meets World\u201d variety and beyond.<\/p>\n

But for followers of her raunchy videos and features, she\u2019s not going anywhere. After she posted about the show on social media<\/a>, Ward said fans already approached her wondering if she is leaving porn. The fiery babe assured them that she is not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018Wait a minute, guys, do you really think that\u2019s the kind of person that I am? I\u2019ve been trying to bridge these industries,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m not somebody who is just going to leave it behind because I want to do mainstream more now.\u201d<\/p>\n

In fact, Ward said she will definitely consider any projects that arouse her interest \u2014 be it porn or not.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to embrace it all,\u201d she said. \u201cPeople think \u2018Oh, you can\u2019t do both,\u2019 and I hate that. I really want to change that perception. You can<\/em> do both.\u201d<\/p>\n
