Dearest readers, Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews<\/a> and revealed to be Nicola Coughlan\u2019s Penelope), everyone\u2019s favorite or least-favorite gossip columnist, has some news<\/a> for you. And it\u2019s a doozy!<\/p>\n

Reg\u00e9-Jean Page<\/a>, who made a name for himself and his character as the Duke of Hastings, will not be returning for Bridgerton<\/em><\/a> Season 2, Netflix announced on April 2 in a statement worded like one of Lady Whistledown\u2019s scandal sheets.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton\u2019s [Jonathan Bailey] quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Reg\u00e9-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings,\u201d it reads. \u201cWe\u2019ll miss Simon\u2019s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.\u201d<\/p>\n

But if you\u2019re wondering what this means for Phoebe Dynevor\u2019s<\/a> future on the show \u2014 she plays Daphne Bridgerton, who married the Duke in Season 1 \u2014 the announcement also reveals she\u2019ll be back.<\/p>\n

\u201cDaphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social<\/a> season and what it has to offer \u2014 more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear,\u201d the message concludes.<\/p>\n

Page also shared the news on Twitter<\/a>, adding, \u201cPleasure and a privilege! An honour to be a member of the family \u2013 on and off screen, cast, crew and incredible fans \u2013 the love is real and will just keep growing.\u201d<\/p>\n

As has already been revealed (also in a Lady Whistledown statement), Season 2 pivots to Daphne\u2019s brother Anthony, just as the second book in Julia Quinn\u2019s series<\/a>, The Viscount Who Loved Me<\/em>, does. But it\u2019s still odd that Page won\u2019t be in the second season at all. And fans had the same reaction on social media after the news broke, especially when it comes to scenes they wanted to see on-screen from the book.<\/p>\n

This announcement comes just after more casting news dropped for Season 2. In addition to Simone Ashley<\/a> coming in as Kate Sharma, Anthony\u2019s new love interest, the Netflix drama is adding another member of her family, her sister Edwina, played by Charithra Chandran, Deadline<\/em><\/a> reports. Edwina \u201cfirst catches the Viscount\u2019s attention.\u201d And Rupert Young has been cast as \u201cJack, the newest member of the Ton with a connection to one of its most notable families and a Bridgerton mystery.\u201d Might he be in some ways filling the gap left by Page\u2019s exit?<\/p>\n
