“#’The X-Files’ Star David Duchovny Reveals He Almost Turned Down Playing Mulder<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been nearly 30 years since The X-Files<\/em> first debuted on Fox, and it\u2019s hard to picture anyone else but actor David Duchovny in the iconic role of FBI Agent\/believer Fox Mulder, but it was almost a possibility.<\/p>\n

During the actor\u2019s recent participation in Rob Lowe\u2018s podcast, Literally! with Rob Lowe<\/em><\/a>, Duchovny revealed that he almost passed on The X-Files<\/em> pilot when he was initially offered the part of Agent Mulder. At the time of the sci-fi show\u2019s humble beginnings, Duchovny was supposedly set to app<\/a>ear in what he describes as \u201cthis movie of the week.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a director who I was friendly with, and I was going to have to\u2026pull out of that part to do The X-Files<\/em> pilot,\u201d Duchovny explained to Lowe. \u201cI said to my agents, \u2018I don\u2019t want to do that. You know, she\u2019s a friend, and I don\u2019t want to pull out.’\u201d<\/p>\n

While Duchovny admitted that the pilot was decent, he wasn\u2019t entirely sold on the premise. At the time, the actor wondered \u201chow long can it go?\u201d when it came to the extraterrestrial subject matter. \u201cI wasn\u2019t interested in conspiracy theories,\u201d he noted. \u201cI was perfectly willing to just say, \u2018I\u2019m going to have to pass on that pilot because I said I\u2019d do this other project.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Luckily for fans, Duchovny\u2019s agents persuaded him to take the role. He\u2019s grateful that they did. \u201cYou talk about actors being dumb\u2026well, that was me.\u201d The rest was history as Duchovny\u2019s Mulder appeared alongside Gillian Anderson\u2018s Dana Scully from 1993 through 2002, for the series<\/a>\u2019 original run, and later reprised their roles for an additional limited-run revival which aired from 2016-2018.<\/p>\n
