Now Specialized is bringing a similar pound-shaving design philosophy to the new <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.specialized.com\/us\/en\/turbo-como-sl\">Como SL<\/a>, a cruiser-type ebike with a relaxed riding geometry and solid cargo capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The upright riding position is something I <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>reciate for commuting in a city, making it easy to both see and be seen in traffic, and the bike is equipped with chunky 650B, 2.3\u2033 tires. Because of their high air volume, the tires themselves can act as a suspension system at lower pressures \u2014 in my experience often better (and lighter) than the cheap suspension forks on many ebikes.<\/p>\n<p>                <iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/fast.wistia.net\/embed\/iframe\/avz903cxvd?videoFoam=true&amp;autoplay=true&amp;silentAutoPlay=true\" title=\"Bumper 06 Video\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen\" allowtransparency=\"true\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" class=\"wistia_embed\" name=\"wistia_embed\" allowfullscreen=\"\" msallowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Unlike the more beefy non-SL Como, the bike comes with an integrated front rack and basket. This is significantly more stable than a fork or handlebar-mounted rack, as it won\u2019t sway around while turning.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few additional nice touches too. The\u00a0internal\u00a0gear hub (5 or 8-speed, depending on the model) allows you to shift from a stop, with the higher-end configuration sporting a super-durable <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gatescarbondrive.com\/\">Gates carbon belt drive<\/a>. The bike also has a neatly integrated handle for lifting at the bottom of the top tube.<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Up Close With the Como SL Featuring Diana Rikasari | Specialized Turbo Ebikes\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HG6ZH8akGcM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\nThe Como SL also has a minimal rear rack that can carry a set of panniers, although unfortunately there\u2019s no top platform to accommodate a child seat or additional cargo. This might\u2019ve been done to shave off a pound or two, but I wish Specialized had committed more fully to the Como SL\u2019s cargo capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s especially true as the Como SL is light, but not <em>that<\/em> light, starting at 47.5 lb\/21.5 kg (oddly, some publications have pegged the weight at a far lighter 17kg, but a Specialized rep\u00a0confirmed the larger number).\u00a0It\u2019s quite a bit heftier than the svelte Vado SL, which went as low as 33 lb (15kg). The non-SL Como weighs about the same as the SL one<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t get me wrong; that is still good 8-10 pounds less than most similarly configured ebikes, and that weight includes the racks and fenders, the former which the standard Como doesn\u2019t include. The internal gear hub is also heavier than a typical derailleur.\u00a0Most competing ebikes weigh about 55 pounds, with some crossing the 60-pound mark, although these models often have beefier motors.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1345408 lazy\" alt=\"\" width=\"1372\" height=\"913\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1372px) 100vw, 1372px\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8.png\" data-lazy=\"true\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8.png 1372w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8-280x186.png 280w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8-406x270.png 406w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8-203x135.png 203w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c21cb8-796x530.png 796w\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The Como SL uses the same 240 W\/ 35 Nm mid-drive motor as the Vado SL, along with a 320 Wh battery that can be expanded to 480 Wh with an optional range extender. Despite the low torque figure, Specialized is \u2014 mercifully \u2014 not needlessly restricting the bike\u2019s speed assistance; it\u2019ll help you out until you reach 28 miles per hour (in the US).<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s significantly better than the 20 mph most ebikes are limited to, although you\u2019ll still have to put in some work to reach those speeds on flat terrain. But in my experience, the difference between assist limits at 20 and 28mph is substantial for being able to flow along comfortably with traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Those specs don\u2019t sound terribly impressive compared to some of the ebikes out there, but they only tell part of the story. For one, the bike is rated for up to 63 miles of range, or 93 miles with the range extender.<\/p>\n<p>Granted, that\u2019s a bit less than the Vado SL (80\/120 miles), but Specialized says the modified estimate is due to the Como SL\u2019s heavier weight and slightly less efficient riding geometry. In any case, that\u2019s significantly more range than what you get with most ebikes of equivalent battery capacity. Most 500 Wh bikes only claim about 40-60 miles of range.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"post-image post-mediaBleed aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1345410 lazy\" alt=\"\" width=\"1376\" height=\"913\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1376px) 100vw, 1376px\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de.png\" data-lazy=\"true\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de.png 1376w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de-280x186.png 280w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de-407x270.png 407w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de-203x135.png 203w, https:\/\/cdn0.tnwcdn.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/1\/files\/2021\/04\/Snag_3c918de-796x528.png 796w\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>The big elephant in the room is the price: The Como SL starts at $4,000 for the base 4.0 model with the 5-speed hub and regular chain, going up to $4,800 for the 8-speed with Gates belt drive.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers don\u2019t make it im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely obvious the bike is worth that kind of cash; the Ariel Rider\u00a0M-Class I reviewed last year offers more cargo capability and power for far less money. But if the Como SL is like the Vado SL, the bike could be more than the sum of its parts.<\/p>\n<p>The Como SL\u2019s motor is a\u00a0torque-sensing mid-drive, which on the Vado SL had the smoothest assist of any ebike I\u2019ve tried. The Como SL is also lighter than most similarly-equipped competition,\u00a0 and in this writer\u2019s opinion, is one of the nicest-looking step-through ebikes around.
