“#Jerry Seinfeld to headline Gotham Comedy Club reopening<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Jerry Seinfeld is bringing comedy back to New York City.<\/p>\n

The sitcom legend has announced he\u2019s headlining the reopening of Chelsea\u2019s Gotham Comedy Club<\/a> on Friday, April 2.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou better believe I will be on stage tonight,\u201d he announced<\/a> in a tweet Friday afternoon, adding, \u201cOpening God Damn Night! NYC Lives!\u201d In a second post he added<\/a> that he would be \u201cfirst on stage at 7:00pm.\u201d<\/p>\n

The in-person standup show, which is sold out, marks the reopening of the club \u2014 alongside other entertainment institutions as New Yorkers keep lining up for COVID-19 vaccines \u2014 after the coronavirus pandemic shut down venues across New York, and the world, last year. The club has hosted numerous A-list comics over the years, including Dave Chapp<\/a>elle, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, Colin Quinn and many more. <\/p>\n

His billing is part of a \u201cGotham All-Stars\u201d line-up that kicks off Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n

Seinfeld\u2019s appearance isn\u2019t the only pick-up he\u2019s given the city. He was also among the NYC celebs who lent their voices to the MTA for subway and bus announcements to give riders a boost and, perhaps, a much-needed chuckle.<\/p>\n

Last fall he also slapped down Stand Up NY comedy club co-owner James Altucher for penning an essay last summer, in which he declared that NYC is \u201cdead forever\u201d due to the COVID-19 crisis. <\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t like that nobody was rebutting it. Then I realized, \u2018Oh, I guess that\u2019s my job.\u2019 Somebody, a real New Yorker, has to answer this,\u201d Seinfeld told\u00a0CBS\u2019s \u201c60 Minutes\u201d in October, saying it was time to \u201cget back to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

In February, the state jump-started a \u201cpop-up\u201d program to populate the city with performances in local parks and on subway platforms. New York City also started<\/a> a free permit system for outdoor performances for struggling organizations. Unfortunately, the resurgence hasn\u2019t been a save for all businesses: The East Village\u2019s iconic Pyramid Club announced Thursday that it would not reopen after closing its doors more than a year ago.<\/p>\n
