\n Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday said he is \u201cvery concerned\u201d with the spike of violence that has torn through the Big App<\/a>le, calling the loss of life \u201chorrific.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe state police are working on it, they\u2019re speaking to the NYPD. My criminal justice people are going to be speaking with the mayor\u2019s criminal justice people. I\u2019m going to be speaking with the district attorneys, I\u2019m going to be speaking with the Chief Judge today,\u201d Cuomo said at a coronavirus briefing in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very concerned about it. I\u2019m concerned about it, not just for the immedia<\/a>te loss of life, which is horrific,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd again, it\u2019s the communities that in many ways need the most, pay the highest price,\u201d Cuomo said, noting that many of the shootings have taken place in neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the Bronx that suffering greatly from COVID-19 and suffer \u201cinequality across the board.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the violence is \u201cunnecessary\u201d but \u201cfrightening\u201d and \u201ctragic.\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor said he\u2019s worried about the spike in crime and how it will affect the city as it begins Phase three of the reopening plan.<\/p>\n

On top of the violence, he said people are moving out of the city because of the coronavirus and the city\u2019s economy is struggling because businesses haven\u2019t fully reopened.<\/p>\n

Adding a \u201cpublic safety concern\u201d to that \u201cis a bad combination of events, and a bad combination of facts. So, yes, I\u2019m very concerned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Between June 29 and Sunday, there were 74 shooting incidents in the city, leaving 101 victims, The Post reported on Monday. That\u2019s compared to 26 shootings during the same time last year.<\/p>\n

At the same time 18 people were murdered in the city \u2014 six more than the same time period last year. On Sunday, there were 30 shooting incidents with 48 victims.<\/p>\n

In a span of three hours, seven people were shot, five fatally, in incidents in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
