Peter (<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_iphelix?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@_iphelix<\/a>) and I are NOT most people. Tabaat is the Hebrew word for ring.<\/p>\n<p>Kacherginsky <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/address\/0x961Cf9036557E84Fc4AC9526547574966293234D\">created<\/a> the 2,218 line-long smart contract on March 10, with the contract costing 0.25 ETH to create \u2014 worth roughly $450 at the time. An hour after the contract was created, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/address\/0x961Cf9036557E84Fc4AC9526547574966293234D\">three<\/a> more transactions were sent from Tabaat for an additional cost of 0.0048 ETH or $87 \u2014 suggesting it costs around $537 to tokenize a marriage contract. <\/p>\n<p>The ceremony itself consisted of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0x85dbdc794799009f27471a6ce1e4f230543e7ee75a9aeb4d791a109bbac41279\">two<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/etherscan.io\/tx\/0xc206bb9f30050a2abb95f7e65c6381a9202f5776f0ec633913af1fc0bd0829fe\">transactions<\/a> \u2014 the transfer of the NFT \u2018rings\u2019 from the contract to Rose and Kacherginsky. In total, the ceremony took 4 minutes to be validated by the Ethereum network, and incurred $50 in miner fees.<\/p>\n<p>By contrast, the average physical wedding in the United States costs roughly <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.valuepenguin.com\/average-cost-of-wedding\">$25,000<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The NFTs depict an animation of two circles merging to become one, and were illustrated by artist Carl Johan Hasselrot. On Twitter, Rose said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe blockchain, unlike physical objects, is forever. It is unstoppable, impossible to censor, and does not require anyone\u2019s permission. Just as love should be. What could possibly be more romantic than that.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This is not the first blockchain-based marriage, with DLT first being used to tie the knot back October 2014.
