{"id":219613,"date":"2021-04-05T18:46:02","date_gmt":"2021-04-05T15:46:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nasa-researchers-discover-first-x-rays-from-uranus\/"},"modified":"2021-04-05T18:46:02","modified_gmt":"2021-04-05T15:46:02","slug":"nasa-researchers-discover-first-x-rays-from-uranus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nasa-researchers-discover-first-x-rays-from-uranus\/","title":{"rendered":"#NASA researchers discover first X-rays from Uranus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NASA researchers discover first X-rays from Uranus<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/04\/uranus.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Astronomers\u00a0at\u00a0NASA\u2019s\u00a0Chandra X-ray Observatory have detected X-rays from the\u00a0planet\u00a0Uranus\u00a0for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers used observations of the\u00a0ice giant taken in 2002 and 2017 to detect the radiation as part of\u00a0a new study published Tuesday in\u00a0the Journal of Geophysical Research.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an examination and with further analysis, they saw\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1029\/2020JA028739\">clear detection of X-rays<\/a>\u00a0from the first observation and possible flare of X-rays from those 15 years later.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0scientists\u00a0believe that the\u00a0sun\u00a0could be the driving force causing Uranus to emit the X-rays.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Astronomers have previously observed that both\u00a0Jupiter\u00a0and\u00a0Saturn\u00a0scatter X-ray light from the sun.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, while the study\u2019s authors say they believe the X-rays detected would also be from \u201cscattering,\u201d another source of X-rays is also likely.<\/p>\n<p>Like Saturn, they say, Uranus\u2019\u00a0rings could be producing the X-rays itself or even the planet\u2019s aurora \u2014 a phenomenon created when\u00a0high-energy particles interact with the atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUranus is surrounded by charged particles such as\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/chandra.si.edu\/resources\/glossaryE.html\">electrons<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/chandra.si.edu\/resources\/glossaryP.html\">protons<\/a>\u00a0in its nearby\u00a0space environment,\u201d the Chandra X-ray Observatory\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/chandra.si.edu\/photo\/2021\/uranus\/\">wrote in a release<\/a>. \u201cIf these energetic particles collide with the rings, they could cause the rings to glow in X-rays.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>X-rays are emitted in Earth\u2019s auroras and Jupiter has auroras, as well, though X-rays from auroras on Jupiter come from two sources.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/mission_pages\/chandra\/images\/first-x-rays-from-uranus-discovered.html\">a nearly identical NASA release<\/a>\u00a0notes that researchers remain uncertain about\u00a0what causes the\u00a0auroras on Uranus.<\/p>\n<p>The agency wrote that the\u00a0unusual orientations of its spin axis and magnetic field may cause the planet\u2019s auroras to be \u201cunusually complex and variable.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-twitter wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter\"\/>The rotation axis of Uranus is nearly parallel to its path around the sun \u2014 unlike the axes of other planets in the solar system \u2014 and while Uranus is tilted on its side,\u00a0its magnetic field is tiled by a different amount.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDetermining the sources of the X-rays from Uranus could help astronomers better understand how more exotic objects in space, such as growing black holes and neutron stars, emit X-rays,\u201d NASA wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun in the solar system. It has two sets of rings around its equator. Its diameter is four times that of Earth.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpl.nasa.gov\/missions\/voyager-2\">Because Voyager 2<\/a>\u00a0was the only spacecraft to ever fly by Uranus, astronomers rely on\u00a0telescopes\u00a0like Chandra to learn more about the cold planet that is made up almost entirely of hydrogen and helium.\n            <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
