“#Max Plans to Address Systemic Racism \u2014 But Is in for a Shock (VIDEO)<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Medical director Dr. Max Goodwin (Ryan Eggold<\/a>) plans to address something he should have the moment he took over at New Amsterdam in the April 6 episode \u2014 systemic racism \u2014 and that means tracking down chairwoman Karen Brantley (Debra Monk) for some much needed help.<\/p>\n

As TV Insider\u2019s exclusive sneak peek of New Amsterdam<\/em><\/a> shows, Max chases down Karen, who can\u2019t run away from him no matter how hard she tries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI ran because your face says you want money for something,\u201d she says as she steps on the elevator. \u201cWhat is it today? Therapy dogs for post-partum mothers? Improv classes for survivors of PTSD?\u201d<\/p>\n

Sure, she\u2019s now given him good ideas to tackle later, but that\u2019s not what he\u2019s after today, he explains after he refuses to be deterred by the elevator doors closing. Instead, he takes the next one and continues their conversation on another floor. (Karen should know by now she can\u2019t escape him.)<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to end systemic racism,\u201d Max declares. \u201cJust at the hospital. Start small, right?\u201d And when she walks away, he calls after her, \u201cIt\u2019s kind of a controversial stand, walking away, siding with racism, kind of a Karen move, Karen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy exasperation with you has no relation to my thoughts on racism,\u201d she makes clear, but \u201cwhy today?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew you were going to ask that but there is no answer because we should be asking the right question, which is why not yesterday? Why not a year ago? Why not two years ago when I first took over?\u201d Max explains. \u201cSystemic racism should have been the first thing I addressed when I got to New Amsterdam and I\u2019m app<\/a>alled that it wasn\u2019t, so today it is.\u201d<\/p>\n
