Meet the Boston Powder Blue and Yellow Sox.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox unveiled a new alternate color-scheme and jersey on Tuesday to be worn on Patriots Day weekend game<\/a>s in honor of the official colors of the Boston Marathon.<\/p>\n

Of course, the Fashion Police mocked the new colors on social media<\/a>, with some likening them to the UCLA Bruins\u2019 uniforms.<\/p>\n

The new uniforms will include yellow jerseys with Boston written across the chest and a powder blue caps featuring the Red Sox\u2019s traditional \u201cB\u201d insignia. They also will include an arm patch with the \u201c617\u201d area code for Fenway Park within a marathon racing bib.<\/p>\n

The uniforms \u2013 part of a theme<\/a>d \u201cCity Connect\u201d series<\/a> created by Nike \u2014 will be worn in games against the Chicago White Sox on April 17-18, with the Red Sox wearing \u201cB-Strong\u201d uniforms for Patriots Day on April 19, as they\u2019ve done since the Boston Marathon terrorist bombing in 2013.<\/p>\n

Two homemade bombs were detonated near the finish line of the marathon on April 15 of that year, killing three people and injuring hundreds of others. Less than a week later, Red Sox slugger David Ortiz gave an emotional speech at Fenway, exclaiming \u201cThis is our f\u2014king city! And nobody\u2019s going to dictate our freedom. Stay strong.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Boston Marathon was canceled last year and has been pushed back to October this year due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe viewed the City Connect collaboration with Nike as an opportunity to celebrate the spirit of a weekend that is uniquely Boston,\u201d Red Sox executive Adam Grossman said in a team announcement. \u201cThe departure from our traditional style pays homage to that iconic weekend, and recognizes Boston\u2019s boldness, culture and creativity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Six other teams will unveil City Connect jerseys this season: the Cubs, Diamondbacks, Dodgers, Giants, Marlins and White Sox. Every MLB team \u2014 including the Yankees \u2014 is expected to have a jersey in the collection by the end of 2023.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
