\n It\u2019s not just a sad concession to the \u201cDefundtheNYPD\u201d extremists \u2014 it also risks the safety of the city\u2019s public-school children. Congrats, Mr. Mayor and Mr. Speaker.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re talking, of course, about the shift of school-safety oversight from the Police Department to the Department of Education, reversing the shift from 20 years ago.<\/p>\n

As Susan Edelman reported in Sunday\u2019s Post, it\u2019s a recipe for disaster. \u201cIt\u2019s something the DOE doesn\u2019t do well \u2014 security,\u201d warns Gregory Floyd, head of Teamsters Local 237, which represents 5,035 school-safety agents.<\/p>\n

Indeed, the old system saw the DOE\u2019s predecessor bureaucracy hiring agents who turned out to be gang members, pedophiles and other nightmares.<\/p>\n

Chancellor Richard Carranza greeted the new deal with a vow to start training school safety officers in \u201cde-escalation, implicit bias and restorative justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet one Manhattan teacher and public-school parent told The Post, \u201cThe idea of restorative justice does not work,\u201d and the move \u201cwill simply contribute to the deterioration of the NYC public schools.\u201d<\/p>\n

To cover it up, warns City Councilman Robert Holden (D-Queens), \u201cThey\u2019ll fudge the crime numbers, just like they fudge graduation rates and grades.\u201d<\/p>\n

And it won\u2019t even app<\/a>ease the \u201cdefund\u201d crowd. All this \u201creform\u201d does is make schools an \u201cunsafe space\u201d for kids \u2014 the last thing any responsible adult should want.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
