It was only a matter of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When Rudy Giuliani\u2019s son, Andrew, announced his plans to run for\u00a0New York governor earlier today, social media<\/a> celebrated in snarky style:\u00a0by shouting out the classic \u201cSNL\u201d skit in which the\u00a0former NYC mayor\u2019s progeny was portrayed by the late Chris Farley.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The spoofs are currently trending on Twitter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cSeeing Andrew Giuliani trending only makes me miss Chris Farley,\u201d tweeted one \u201cSNL\u201d fan<\/a> in reference to the hilarious skits.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Another wrote<\/a>, \u201cAndrew Giuliani is running for mayor. Really? Can\u2019t help but think of Chris Farley.\u201d <\/p>\n

Farley, who died in 1997 at 33 after 17 stints in rehab, struggled his whole adult life with drug and alcohol addiction. But diehard fans look back to his tenure on \u201cSNL\u201d as one of the best in the show\u2019s history, often recalling his over-the-top impressions like the one of Andrew, and of course, his iconic Chippendales bit<\/a>. <\/p>\n

In one of the\u00a0immortal\u00a0Giuliani sketches,\u00a0titled \u201cOpening Night Yankee Stadium\u201d from \u201cSNL\u2019s\u201d 19th season in 1994, Farley\u2019s Andrew can be seen acting obnoxious at Yankee Stadium.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Another depicted the \u201cSNL\u201d legend parodying<\/a> the 8-year-old\u2019s infamous attention-seeking antics during\u00a0his father\u2019s inauguration as mayor in 1994<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If he does enter the gubernatorial race, the younger Giuliani will be going toe to toe with Democratic\u00a0Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who is\u00a0currently mired in a torrent of scandals\u00a0involving sexual misconduct claims and his handling of nursing homes.<\/p>\n

Andrew, who is married to real estate exec Zivile Rezgyte<\/a>, app<\/a>eared confident in the prospect of running the state \u2014 despite the inevitable resurfacing of the embarrassing parodies. <\/p>\n

And the skits weren\u2019t even the only moment of Andrew\u2019s past that the social media masses were remembering Wednesday. <\/p>\n

In 2008, Andrew was dismissed from the Duke golf team, and filed a lawsuit over the action, leading some insiders to label him \u201centitled.\u201d A judge eventually dismissed the suit. <\/p>\n

\u201cYes, I\u2019m considering running for governor,\u201d said Andrew, 35. \u201cThere\u2019s an opportunity for Republicans to take back New York. Absolutely.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
