“#Aaron Rodgers is the ‘Jeopardy!’ host winner in my book<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

He scored the winning touchdown.<\/p>\n

On his first night guest-hosting \u201cJeopardy!\u2019\u2019 Aaron Rodgers, the dark-horse candidate to replace the late, great Alex Trebek, took home another Super Bowl in my book. He\u2019s that good.<\/p>\n

I never saw it coming. But the Green Bay Packers quarterback, 37, has got it all, and then some. He\u2019s funny, self-effacing, whip smart and ridiculously handsome, with a sense of comedic timing that should be the envy of every seasoned television professional out there.<\/p>\n

And, unlike Dr. Mehmet Oz and Katie Couric, both of whom, while serving as guest hosts, accepted answers not made in the form of questions \u2014 violating a kind of quiz show prime directive \u2014 Rodgers made no glaring mistakes. He also has never tweeted a nasty comment about the disabled (candidate Ken Jennings), blasted tens of millions of Donald Trump supporters (Couric) or drawn fire and a petition demanding his removal from the show signed by hundreds of fans and former contestants who accused him of spreading \u201cdangerous\u2019\u2019 pseudoscience<\/a> (Dr. Oz.)<\/p>\n

More than any other candidate vying for the job so far, Rodgers deserves the coveted gig as permanent host.<\/p>\n

The only question is \u2014 can he handle the pay cut?<\/p>\n

Clearly, Rodgers is a bit green in the ways of the fast-paced program.<\/p>\n

When he first came onstage, he app<\/a>eared a bit nervous. At times, his diction was less than crystal-clear.<\/p>\n

But these were not deal-breakers. He seems capable of learning TV-speak. And the nerves he displayed were understandable. Even endearing.<\/p>\n

Rodgers is not a complete newbie to the \u201cJeopardy!\u2019\u2019 universe. In 2015, he won the \u201cCelebrity Jeopardy!\u2019\u2019 tournament, in which winnings are donated to charity, and he remains a longtime fan of the show. But in his inaugural appearance as interim host, he turned what could have been an awkward outing on the tube into a triumph during the very last question, winning over the vast \u201cJeopardy!\u2019\u2019 audience. The moment came during Final Jeopardy. In the category \u201cDaytime TV Personalities,\u2019\u2019 Rodgers read the clue to the three contenders:<\/p>\n

\u201cAccepting a Lifetime Achievement Emmy, he said, \u2018Just take . . . 10 seconds to think of the people who have helped you become who you are.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n

The winning response: \u201cWho was Mr. Rogers?\u2019\u2019 <\/p>\n

\u201cBut two-day champion Scott Shewfelt, who didn\u2019t know this, decided to poke fun at Rodgers with a reference to January\u2019s crushing NFC championship loss by the Packers to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.<\/p>\n

This came about after the coach, Matt LaFleur, opted to kick a field goal rather than go for a touchdown. Bad move. Rodgers never got the ball back.<\/p>\n

Shewfelt wrote this as his reply: \u201cWho wanted to kick that field goal?\u201d<\/p>\n

Long pause from the host.<\/p>\n

The other contestants laughed nervously.<\/p>\n

Finally, Rodgers spoke.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is a great question, should be correct,\u201d he said. \u201cBut unfortunately for this game<\/a> today, that\u2019s incorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n

More hilarity ensued than I\u2019ve seen on this show.<\/p>\n

You can\u2019t bottle charm. Aaron Rodgers deserves to be \u201cJeopardy!\u2019\u2019 host. As viewers, we deserve it.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
