Walter Olkewicz, the gentle giant who stole scenes in \u201cTwin Peaks,\u201d \u201cSeinfeld\u201d and \u201cGrace Under Fire,\u201d has died at 72.<\/p>\n

The veteran character actor passed away Tuesday morning at his home in Los Angeles, his son, Zak Olkewicz, confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The co-star of Steven Spielberg\u2019s cult film \u201c1941\u201d and Joel Schumacher\u2019s hit John Grisham adaptation \u201cThe Client\u201d died after a 20-year health battle that included a series<\/a> of knee surgeries that caused infections, resulting in disabilities that forced him out of show business.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a good man who pushed his love for creativity and the arts into everything he did,\u201d Zak told Deadline<\/a> in a statement on behalf of his family. \u201cHe handed that passion down to me, and I look forward to passing it on to the grandchildren he loved so much.\u201d<\/p>\n

Born on May 14, 1948, in Bayonne, NJ, Olkewicz attended Bayonne High School, St. Mary of the Plains College in Kansas and Colorado State University before making his film debut in in 1976\u2019s\u00a0\u201cFutureworld\u201d opposite Peter Fonda and Blythe Danner.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeinfeld\u201d\u00a0fans know him as Nick the cable guy from a classic 1996 episode \u2014 but Olkewicz is perhaps best-known as shady Jacques Renault on David Lynch\u2019s ABC series \u201cTwin Peaks\u201d\u00a0in 1990, as well as in the 1992 feature film \u201cTwin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Olkewicz reprised his role for Lynch\u2019s 2017 Showtime reboot, which would be his last on-screen role. \u201cIt was his\u00a0first role in almost 15 years, and he did it all from behind a bar to cover the fact that he couldn\u2019t stand,\u201d his son told the Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n

In addition to his recurring roles on \u201cGrace Under Fire\u201d and \u201cWho\u2019s the Boss,\u201d the actor\u2019s myriad TV credits include guest app<\/a>earances on classic series such as\u00a0\u201cE.R.,\u201d The Rockford Files,\u201d\u00a0\u201cTaxi,\u201d \u201cBarney Miller,\u201d\u00a0\u201cCheers,\u201d\u00a0\u201cNewhart,\u201d \u201cFalcon Crest,\u201d\u00a0\u201cFamily Ties,\u201d\u00a0\u201cMarried \u2026 With Children,\u201d\u00a0\u201cMoonlighting,\u201d \u201cL.A. Law\u201d and \u201cMurder, She Wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n

He is survived by his son Zak, daughter-in-law Katrina Rennells, and grandchildren Sadie and Declan Robert.<\/p>\n
