“#MSNBC shows wrong black congressman in report on Rep. Alcee Hastings<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

MSNBC has admitted airing footage of the wrong black congressman while reporting on the death of Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier when reporting on the death of Rep. Alcee Hastings, we showed video of Rep. Bennie Thompson,\u201d the network\u2019s Hailie Jackson tweeted<\/a> Tuesday of the mistake on her 10 a.m. show, \u201cHailie Jackson Reports.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe deeply regret the error,\u201d she tweeted.<\/p>\n

Jackson again apologized for the live on-air blunder Wednesday, saying the mistake \u201cshould never have happ<\/a>ened.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are sorry it did. Congressman Hastings served the state of Florida for nearly three decades and the House and deserves a tribute worthy of that service,\u201d the host said.<\/p>\n

Hastings, a former federal judge, announced two years ago that he had pancreatic cancer. He died Tuesday at age 84.<\/p>\n

Thompson, a Democratic congressman from Mississippi, does not appear to have commented about the mix-up, although he has tweeted tributes to Hastings<\/a>, calling his death \u201ca tragic day.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the apology, the left-leaning network was ripped online \u2014 with William Phillips replying to Jackson that the \u201clazy\u201d news<\/a> team likely thinks black people \u201call look alike.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ohio Rep. Joyce Beatty said<\/a> her late colleague deserved better.<\/p>\n

\u201cCongressman Alcee Hastings served in Congress for nearly 30 yrs yet media doesn\u2019t have the respect to post the correct image when reporting on his passing,\u201d she tweeted.<\/p>\n
