The TikTok teens have\u00a0spoken<\/a>: skinny\u00a0jeans are\u00a0so<\/em>\u00a0not cool.<\/p>\n

The skin-tight denims once beloved by Millennials are increasingly a thing of the past, rendered obsolete by those extra pandemic pounds and by Gen Z trend-setters, who want a more relaxed, retro\u00a0fit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Google searches for \u201cwide jeans\u201d\u00a0are on the rise, CNBC reports<\/a>, noting that brands including Levi\u2019s are seeing an uptick in the sales of their baggier, wider styles.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, teens are eager to start spending money on clothes again, and they\u2019re just not interested in tight-fitting pants, according to the results of Piper Sandler\u2019s biannual \u201cTaking Stock with Teens\u201d<\/a> report.<\/p>\n

Baggy pants and high-waisted \u201cmom jeans\u201d are currently No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, on the list of must-have app<\/a>arel among teenage girls, the report says.<\/p>\n

As for where teens are spending their cash, it\u2019s a mix of old and new labels. <\/p>\n

Classic youth brands like Urban Outfitters, American Eagle and Hollister still rank high on Gen Z\u2019s list of favorite brands, while online retailers like Shein and Princess Polly are quickly becoming more popular among teen consumers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not all about the latest fashions.<\/p>\n

Young people today are increasingly using thrift marketplaces<\/a> like Depop, ThredUp, and Poshmark to buy and sell second-hand items in an effort to be more sustainable \u2014 and make some extra money, CNBC notes.<\/p>\n

And as a bonus, the move toward more comfortable denim fits is also better for the planet, according to Elle.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More relaxed jeans don\u2019t contain the non-recyclable, synthetic elastane found in typical skinny jeans or jeggings, Elle noted.<\/p>\n
