An Australian TV director\u00a0died\u00a0in a freak gardening accident \u2014 fatally cutting his hand with a new chainsaw while trimming the hedges at his home.<\/p>\n

John Clabburn, 52 \u2014 who worked on such Aussie TV series<\/a> as \u201cHome and Away\u2019\u2019 and \u201cUnderbelly\u2019\u2019 \u2014 was cleaning up the high\u00a0conifer hedge in the backyard of his family\u2019s home on Sydney\u2019s north shore April\u00a06 when he slashed his hand with a cordless saw he had just bought that day, his wife told the Daily Telegraph.<\/a><\/p>\n

Clabburn fell off the ladder he was on, tumbling 10 feet to the ground \u2014 and ended up suffering fatal cardiac arrest from the blood loss from his slashed hand.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I went out to the back garden, he was crawling on the ground on his stomach, said Clabburn\u2019s wife, Melissa. \u201cThere was so much blood, he was clutching his torso. <\/p>\n

\u201cI kept getting towels to stem the flow, but the blood wouldn\u2019t stop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAll he said was, \u2018Call an ambulance now,\u2019\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne minute we were admiring how straight the hedge was looking and what a great job he had done \u2014 he was so meticulous, he had a great eye for detail \u2014 the next, John was in an ambulance.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe kept it together for me, but I know he would have been in incredible pain,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Several of Clabburn\u2019s industry colleagues have taken to social media<\/a> in the wake of the tragedy to honor their friend.<\/p>\n

\u201cLes Norton\u201d actor Hunter Page-Lochard tweeted<\/a>, \u201cIt was an honour to be able to work with you \u2026\u00a0May you boss every around in heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clabburn is survived by his wife and two sons.<\/p>\n
