adults this week, which means more Americans could soon be getting some form of a vaccination card \u2014 and wondering where they should keep it.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> You see, the three-by-four-inch paper vaccination card designed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is too big for most wallets, let alone the standard credit card pockets sewn into wallets and purses. And retailers including <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/media.officedepot.com\/image\/upload\/v1616624545\/content\/od\/tiles\/2021\/week_14\/free_covid-19_lamination.pdf?cm_sp=services-_-covid-19_lamination_free-_-help_instore-pickup_main_5_0_0&amp;promo_name=services&amp;promo_id=services-covid-19-lamination&amp;promo_creative=covid-19_lamination&amp;promo_position=help_instore-pickup_main_5_0_0\" class=\"icon none\">OfficeMax and Office Depot<\/a>, as well as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/03\/26\/us\/staples-office-depot-covid-vaccine-laminate-trnd\/index.html\" class=\"icon none\">Staples<\/a>, are offering free lamination services without purchase for those who want to protect their vaccine cards.\u00a0(What\u2019s more, \u201cI\u2019m vaccinated\u201d merch is also giving Etsy sellers another shot at profits. )<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m getting asked about this a lot more as more people get vaccinated, and they\u2019re starting to see vaccination requirements to go to a sporting event or to <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>,\u201d Dr. Arthur Caplan, director of NYU Langone\u2019s Division of Medical Ethics, told MarketWatch. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read more: <\/strong>What you need to know about vaccine passports \u2014 and the \u2018double privilege\u2019 dilemma they raise<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: <\/strong>Am I a jerk for getting a COVID-19 vaccine if I feel healthy and work from home?<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has no central database for immunizations, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/covid-19-vaccination-cards-are-the-only-proof-of-shots-soon-an-essential-11617105602?mod=e2fb\" class=\"icon none\">The Wall Street Journal reports<\/a>, and there is no one standard proof for COVID-19 vaccinations. In fact, the COVID vaccination cards are not necessarily uniform, since some states and local authorities are handing out their own cards rather than using the CDC\u2019s version. So this means your vaccination card is the only physical proof that you\u2019ve received your shot or shots at the moment, and you\u2019ll want to take good care of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Caplan said that he started telling people to laminate their cards two months ago. \u201cKnowing who has been vaccinated against COVID-19 is going to be crucial in the months to come,\u201d he said, \u201cand it\u2019s going to be absolutely crucial for getting into events, traveling, maybe even getting into work.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><strong>Coronavirus Update: <\/strong>COVID cases near 128 million worldwide amid call for a global treaty to bolster pandemic preparedness<\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p>And while some people have expressed concern that laminating vaccine cards now could create issues if you need a COVID shot booster down the road, Caplan waved those concerns away. \u201cIf you get a booster, you\u2019ll probably get a new card anyway,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But health experts told MarketWatch that there are some things you should do before you rush to get your vaccination card laminated, if you choose to go that route versus buying a sleeve or a lanyard.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Make_sure_the_information_on_your_vaccination_card_is_accurate\"><\/span><strong>Make sure the information on your vaccination card is accurate<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Make sure that your name and birthdate are correct, and that the card includes which vaccine you received, and the right date and location. \u201cAt your first <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointment, if anything looks wrong, make sure they write down the right information before you leave,\u201d Caplan said. If you are getting a two-dose vaccine, you also want to make sure that you are being given the correct vaccine at your second appointment.<\/p>\n<p>If you are not given a vaccine card, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/expect.html\" class=\"icon none\">the CDC suggests<\/a> that you contact the vaccination provider\u2019s site where you got vaccinated, or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/publichealthgateway\/healthdirectories\/healthdepartments.html\" class=\"icon none\">your state health department<\/a>, to find out how you can get a card.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ask_where_your_vaccination_record_is_being_kept\"><\/span><strong>Ask where your vaccination record is being kept<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>\u201cYou want to know where this information is being recorded digitally, in case you lose your card,\u201d Caplan explained. Ask someone at your vaccination location, and if for some reason they cannot tell you, you can also try <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/programs\/iis\/contacts-locate-records.html#state\" class=\"icon none\">checking your state health department\u2019s immunization information system (ISS)<\/a>. The CDC notes that some places may also enroll you in online tools like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/vsafe.html\" class=\"icon none\">V-safe<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/covid-19\/reporting\/vaxtext\/index.html\" class=\"icon none\">VaxText<\/a> after your first dose, where you can also access your vaccination information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Photograph_both_sides_of_your_vaccination_card_and_email_the_photos_to_yourself\"><\/span><strong>Photograph both sides of your vaccination card, and email the photos to yourself<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>If you have a camera phone, Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and public health professor at George Washington University, recommends taking a picture of both sides of your vaccine card ASAP, and marking it as a \u201cfavorite\u201d in your phone\u2019s photo album in some way, or perhaps storing the images in a mobile wallet. \u201cI would email the pictures to myself, too,\u201d she said, \u201cjust to make sure that there\u2019s another copy of it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t have a camera phone, then take a photograph of the card with a camera when you get home. Store those images in a safe place, including emailing them to yourself.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Make_a_paper_photocopy_of_both_sides_of_your_vaccination_card\"><\/span><strong>Make a paper photocopy of both sides of your vaccination card<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>In the same vein, make a hard copy of your vaccination card \u2014 perhaps at one of the retailers where you\u2019re getting the card laminated, if you choose to go that route. \u201cWhen it comes to something like your COVID vaccination, you want to have this documentation at your fingertips,\u201d said Wen. \u201cThat\u2019s why having multiple copies of it available in different ways is a wise choice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dont_laminate_your_card_until_you_get_your_second_dose_if_its_a_two-shot_vaccine\"><\/span><strong>Don\u2019t laminate your card until you get your second dose, if it\u2019s a two-shot vaccine<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>The health care workers at your vaccination site are going to be writing down the details of your second dose on this card, if you\u2019re getting the Pfizer<br \/>\n        PFE,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/202877789\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+1.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       or Moderna<br \/>\n        MRNA,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/205619834\/composite\" class=\"positive\">+5.26%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       vaccines, so you\u2019ll want to wait until you\u2019ve received both shots and confirmed the information for both is correct on your card before you get it laminated. If you are getting the one-shot Johnson &amp; Johnson<br \/>\n        JNJ,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/201724570\/composite\" class=\"negative\">-1.06%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       vaccine, you can go ahead and laminate it if you\u2019d like after your one-and-done dose \u2014 although you should run through the above list first.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Also see:<\/strong> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/events.marketwatch.com\/crypto\/home\" class=\"icon none\">Want to understand the future of cryptos and NFTs? It should be noted, however, that medical guidance is always subject to change as we get more information or new policies are put into place. Both Caplan and Wen said that you would probably get another card if you needed to get a booster shot, however.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also a good idea to tell your family and your doctor that you have been vaccinated. This way, if you are ever unconscious or incapacitated and have  to be taken to a hospital or urgent care center, your doctor or your family can let the nurses and physicians treating you know that you have been vaccinated against COVID. <\/p>\n<p>These health professionals and the CDC also offered some tips on where to keep your card, as well as what to do if your vaccine card is lost or damaged.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_if_my_vaccine_card_is_lost_or_damaged\"><\/span><strong>What if my vaccine card is lost or damaged?<\/strong>\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Contact the place where you received your vaccine to access your vaccination record and get another card.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you cannot contact your vaccination provider for some reason, then reach out to your state health department\u2019s immunization information system (IIS). You can find state <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/programs\/iis\/contacts-locate-records.html#state\" class=\"icon none\">IIS information on the CDC website<\/a>. The CDC notes that vaccination providers are required to report COVID-19 vaccinations to their IIS and related systems, so the state should have a record of your vaccination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And if you enrolled in <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/vaccines\/safety\/vsafe.html\" class=\"icon none\">V-safe<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/vaccines\/covid-19\/reporting\/vaxtext\/index.html\" class=\"icon none\">VaxText<\/a> after your first vaccine dose, if you are getting one of the two-shot vaccines, you can access your vaccination information using those tools.<\/p>\n<h6><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Should_I_keep_my_vaccine_card_in_my_wallet_or_carry_it_with_me_at_all_times\"><\/span><strong>Should I keep my vaccine card in my wallet or carry it with me at all times?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h6>\n<p>Neither Wen nor Caplan believe you need to keep your COVID vaccination card on you at this time, since so many people still remain unvaccinated. \u201cPut it in the same place as all of your other important documents \u2014 your passport, your birth certificate,\u201d Wen suggested. \u201cThere\u2019s no reason for you to be carrying it around with you everywhere, especially if you have a digital copy on your phone. There are still really not enough people who have been vaccinated, that establishments have been setting up requirements for proof of vaccination yet.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, you don\u2019t have to carry it when you\u2019re out,\u201d Caplan agreed. \u201cI think in the future, if you are going to a Broadway show or a sporting event, you\u2019ll need it.\u201d So similar to something like a passport or birth certificate, you\u2019ll just want to bring your card with you for special occasions \u2014 or for snagging a free Krispy Kreme doughnut through the end of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that this guidance could be subject to change, however. And it\u2019s also possible that you\u2019ll be able to prove that you\u2019ve been vaccinated via an app, such as the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov\/excelsior-pass\" class=\"icon none\">digital Excelsior Pass<\/a> being rolled out in New York.
