A furious Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis blasted President Biden for causing the \u201cinhumane and horrible\u201d border crisis after travel<\/a>ing to Texas for a first-hand look.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Biden has turned over our border to the cartels,\u201d the Republican from Staten Island told The Post after a Friday visit to the Rio Grande Valley with a group of House GOP colleagues.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt angered me to see how the smugglers have just taken over,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s completely chaotic.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow could anybody who has a heart let this go on, knowing how people are being exploited?\u201d she asked.<\/p>\n

According to US Customs and Border Patrol agents who briefed the legislators, Mexican cartels are taking advantage of Biden\u2019s porous border policies to make billions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bottom line is, this is a business for the cartels,\u201d Malliotakis said. \u201cThey are making an estimated half-billion dollars a month \u2014 first with human trafficking, then with the guns, the drugs. And one feeds off the other.\u201d<\/p>\n

With CBP resources strained as officers tend the migrants the cartels have sent flooding over the border \u2014 172,000 people in March alone \u2014 the criminals can freely shuttle weapons, narcotics, gang members, and even potential terrorists into the US through unguarded areas, the lawmakers were told.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said the cartels exploit children to use them as scouts\u201d as the criminals cross the Rio Grande in rafts and small boats, Malliotakis said. <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if CBP comes too close \u2014 in one case two weeks ago, the smugglers threw a 6-month-old over<\/a> the raft into the water, because it diverted the agents to go save the baby and let them get away.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cartels are actively recruiting migrants from far beyond Central America, she was told: at least 60 countries are represented at the migrant holding facility in Donna, Tex.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not like these people are coming spontaneously,\u201d Malliotakis said. \u201cThis is an organized criminal operation that President Biden has allowed to occur by undoing the actions that President Trump took to try to create some order at the border.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malliotakis snapp<\/a>ed photos of children \u201csleeping on top of each other\u201d under reflective blankets in the Donna holding center \u2014 which was built for 250 people but now houses 4,000 migrants for weeks at a time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese kids are in what they call a pod. It\u2019s meant for 33 people, but you have like 100 of them in there. Zero social<\/a> distancing,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Tiny sneakers and flip-flops were placed carefully along the clear plastic sides of the packed pod as a flat-screen TV ran cartoons in a far corner.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe saw kids who were crying, very scared and alone,\u201d Malliotakis said. \u201cThe ones who were sent by themselves \u2014 they don\u2019t know why they\u2019re there, they don\u2019t know where their families are. Absolutely heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Earlier, the delegation visited a makeshift migrant intake center a mile from the Rio Grande in McAllen, Tex. \u2014 hastily created weeks ago beneath a bridge overpass to process the constant flood of new arrivals. About 1,000 people show up there nightly, Malliotakis was told.<\/p>\n

Hundreds of children and adults sat for hours on metal benches bounded by orange plastic construction netting before they could be interviewed by CBP agents.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt looked like a medical office, just people waiting their turn to be called,\u201d Malliotakis said.<\/p>\n

As the officials walked the dirt path leading to the river\u2019s edge, \u201cWe had groups of migrants pass us as we went along,\u201d she said. \u201cMany of them were holding babies and small children\u201d \u2014 because they and the cartels know that under Biden\u2019s executive order, anyone traveling with a child under age 7 won\u2019t be turned away.<\/p>\n

\u201cA broken policy that is being exploited by these smugglers,\u201d Malliotakis charged.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s no surprise, she said, that Roberta Jacobson, the former US ambassador to Mexico who had served as Biden\u2019s \u201cborder czar,\u201d announced her departure Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven his \u2018czar\u2019 recognizes that this is a national disgrace and a direct result of President Biden\u2019s misguided executive orders,\u201d Malliotakis said. \u201cIt\u2019s only going to get worse unless the President admits this failure and undoes his policies.\u201d<\/p>\n

But first, she said, Biden and Harris \u2014 whom Biden tapped to handle the border policy last month \u2014 must see the debacle for themselves.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president should be here to hear from the customs and border officers who are begging for assistance,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd Kamala Harris has been given this responsibility. She needs to come here and see what we saw.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how anyone could see this and not call it a humanitarian crisis,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s all being encouraged by our president.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n
