NASA will delay the historic flight of their Ingenuity helicopter \u2014 set to launch on Mars \u2013until at least April 14, the agency said in a statement Saturday.<\/p>\n

The agency said an issue arose during a rotor test. <\/p>\n

\u201cDuring a high-speed spin test of the rotors on Friday, the command sequence controlling the test ended early due to a \u2018watchdog\u2019 timer expiration. This occurred as it was trying to transition the flight computer from \u2018Pre-Flight\u2019 to \u2018Flight\u2019 mode,\u201d the statement read<\/a>. \u201cThe helicopter is safe and healthy and communicated its full telemetry set to Earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

The agency said they are were reviewing the situation and working \u201cto diagnose and understand the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Ingenuity was carried to the red planet attached to NASA\u2019s Perseverance rover, which landed successfully on Mars last month. If the Ingenuity flight is successful it will be the first time humans have managed a controlled flight on another planet.\n <\/p><\/div>\n
