AUGUSTA, Ga. \u2014 Cell phones are almost entirely forbidden at Augusta National, so imagine Tony Finau\u2019s surprise Saturday when he got told during a weather delay that someone wanted to talk with him.<\/p>\n

It was a FaceTime call.<\/p>\n

From Tom Brady.<\/p>\n

\u201cA cool call,\u201d Finau said.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what happ<\/a>ened: Play was suspended around 4 p.m. because of dangerous weather in the area, and Finau went to the caddie house to wait for the resumption of play. That\u2019s when Jimmy Dunne, an Augusta National member, just happened to be on the phone with Brady \u2014 the seven-time Super Bowl winning quarterback, the most recent of those coming earlier this year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.<\/p>\n

Dunne approached Finau and said, \u201csomebody wants to talk to you.\u201d Somebody was Brady.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was a pleasant surprise,\u201d said Finau, who is curryently solo ninth at 3-under, eight strokes behind leader Hideki Matsuyama. \u201cHe said \u2018great playing,\u2019 and he\u2019s following. He said he\u2019s surprised we stopped. He said, in the NFL, \u2018When it rains, we don\u2019t stop.\u2019 I said, \u2018Maybe we\u2019re not as tough as you guys,\u2019 and he said, \u2018No, that\u2019s not the case.\u2019 We had a good laugh about that.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was giving me some crap about the weather and why we stopped. He was obviously watching, and that was cool he was following.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brady is a big-time golfer and golf fan. He played last year in \u201cThe Match: Champions for Charity,\u201d teaming with Phil Mickelson against Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning. The made-for-TV event raised $20 million.<\/p>\n

Finau is friends with Brady\u2019s longtime trainer, Alex Guerrero.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex is one of my good friends and someone I\u2019ve known for a little bit,\u201d Finau said. \u201cThat\u2019s kind of how we met in Boston when he was playing for the Patriots, and this is only the second time we\u2019ve had a conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finau is a big football fan, but never was a serious player. He was asked if Brady, who has been known to recruit a free agent or two, asked him about joining the Bucs.
\u201cHe\u2019s got plenty of weapons over there in Tampa,\u201d Finau said. \u201cThey\u2019re not going to need me.\u201d\n <\/div>\n
