“#Christopher Meloni Teases Law & Order Return, Potential Benson\/Stabler Reunion<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

Christopher Meloni is reprising his Elliot Stabler role from Law & Order: SVU on a new spinoff and the actor is now opening up about his controversial departure from the series<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meloni starred on SVU for 12 seasons before being written out of the series without so much as an on-screen farewell.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Many questioned what paved the way for the sudden departure and whether there was bad blood between Meloni and co-star Mariska Hargitay.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n Now, in a new interview, Meloni maintains that he exited with “zero animosity.”<\/p>\n

\u201cHow I left was a different issue and had nothing to do with the \u2018Law & Order\u2019 people, the \u2018SVU\u2019 people or with Dick Wolf,\u201d Meloni explained to the New York Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cI left with zero animosity, but I did leave clearly and open-eyed in going forward and finding new adventures.”<\/p>\n

\u201cI was like, \u2018That\u2019s what I want to do, keep moving forward,\u2019\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had done the \u2018Law & Order\u2019 way of storytelling, which they do really well, and I was interested in telling stories from a different angle \u2014 whether comedic or inhabiting a new world or doing it on different platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actor followed up the series with roles on the likes of True Blood, Veep, and The Handmaid’s Tale.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n He said during the interview that his circumstances had changed, and that’s why he was happ<\/a>y to return to the franchise when Dick Wolf pitched the new series to him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI never thought this was going to happen, but the circumstances for me changed,\u201d he continued to the outlet. \u201cSo \u2018yes\u2019 became the correct answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Law & Order: Organized Crime focuses on Stabler returning to the NYPD after a personal loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cDick gave me a general<\/a> brush stroke of the unit that Elliot will be a part of,\u201d Meloni explained. \u201cThe whys, what fors, what brings him back to the fold and where he\u2019s been.”<\/p>\n

\n Meloni also opened up about a potential reunion between Elliot and Benson.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just has to be,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

\u201cBenson and Stabler are inextricably linked, locked and connected. I think there is truly and deeply a worthwhile, inherent drama in exploring that relationship and the complexity of how Stabler left \u2014 the unresolved emotions both characters feel and how the fans feel.\u201d<\/p>\n
