“#National Guard deployed in Minneapolis after fatal police shooting<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

The National Guard was deployed in Minneapolis as hundreds of people looted and rioted into the early hours Monday after a black man was shot dead by police just 10 miles from where George Floyd died.<\/p>\n

The fatal shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center came as the Twin Cities was already in a state of high alert over the trial of ex-cop Derek Chauvin charged with Floyd\u2019s murder last May.<\/p>\n

Within hours of Wright\u2019s 2 p.m. fatal shooting, at least 500 protesters had taken to the streets, according to the Star Tribune<\/a> \u2014 many looting and trashing up to at least 20 stores, officials later revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cHey! They\u2019re coming!\u201d a man was heard yelling on one video<\/a> that captured several people running out of a looted store with their hands full of stolen items as nearby car horns repeatedly honked.<\/p>\n

As many carried \u201cBlack Lives Matter\u201d banners through the streets, protesters jumped on top of police vehicles \u2014 and started throwing rocks and other projectiles at officers, officials said.<\/p>\n

In ugly confrontations caught on videos on social media<\/a>, police fought back with tear gas, flash bangs and rubber bullets.<\/p>\n

The National Guard was deployed and arrived just before midnight, the Star Tribune said \u2014 with officials announcing that more would be arriving throughout Monday to help quell further violence.<\/p>\n

Brooklyn Center Mayor Mike Elliott also announced a curfew in the city until 6 a.m. Monday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe want to make sure everyone is safe. Please be safe and please go home,\u201d he said in a\u00a0tweet<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Looting was widespread late Sunday into early Monday, spilling into north and south Minneapolis. Several businesses around a Walmart were completely destroyed, including Foot Locker, T Mobile, and a New York men\u2019s clothing store, the Star Tribune said.<\/p>\n

Police said Brooklyn Center officers wear body-worn cameras and they also believe dash cameras were activated during the incident. The department said it has asked the Bureau of Criminal App<\/a>rehension to investigate.<\/p>\n
