Saefong and<\/a><\/li><li class='ez-toc-page-1 ez-toc-heading-level-4'><a class=\"ez-toc-link ez-toc-heading-2\" href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/gold-prices-post-lowest-finish-in-a-week\/#Mark_DeCambre\" >Mark DeCambre<\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/nav><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>#<br \/>\n  Gold prices post lowest finish in a week<br \/>\n<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"article__subhead\" itemprop=\"alternativeHeadline\">\n<\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"column column--full article__content\">\n<div class=\"article__side\">\n<div class=\"container--sticky not-active\">\n<div class=\"cx--next\">\n              <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"js-article__body\" class=\"article__body article-wrap at16-col16 barrons-article-wrap\" itemprop=\"articleBody\" data-sbid=\"WP-MKTW-0000228200\">\n<div class=\"barrons-article-ad-wrapper\">\n<div data-track=\"barrons-article-ad-wrap\" class=\"barrons-article-ad sticky_item\">\n<div class=\"barrons-main-article-ad-target sticky_target body_ad\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>       Gold ended lower on Monday, with strength in U.S. Treasury yields dulling demand for the precious metal and helping to push prices to their lowest finish in a week.<\/p>\n<p> Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell\u2019s comments about the U.S. economy being at an \u201cinflection point\u201d and coupled with increased optimism regarding economic growth and employment caused a sell off in bonds,\u201d David Russell, director of marketing at GoldCore, told MarketWatch.  <\/p>\n<div class=\"paywall\">\n       During an interview on \u201c60 Minutes,\u201d Powell reiterated that the central bank wants to see inflation rise above its 2% target for an extended period before officials consider raising rates.<\/p>\n<p>The higher yields as a result of the selloff on bonds are \u201cnegative for gold in the short term and all eyes will be on the inflation\u00a0figures set for release this week,\u201d Russell said.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. consumer-price index reading is due out Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern. The report on inflation could spark a fresh move in gold, which is viewed as a hedge against rising prices. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> Fed\u2019s Bullard says inflation risks won\u2019t be clear until later this year<\/p>\n<p>The question is \u201cwith the Fed more focused on employment than inflation, will we now start to see signs of inflation start to creep up?\u201d said Russell. Also, as the economy starts to open up the Fed\u2019s Beige Book release Wednesday \u201cwill also be closely watched\u00a0for more anecdotal evidence of building strength of the economy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, June gold\u00a0<br \/>\n        GC00,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210034565\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.78%<\/bg-quote><\/p>\n<p>        GCM21,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210036734\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.78%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       fell $12.10, or 0.7%, to settle at $1,732.70 an ounce on Comex \u2014 the lowest finish for a most-active contract since April 5, FactSet data show. Prices finished about 1% higher for the weekly period Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, May silver<br \/>\n        SIK21,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/213039318\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-1.90%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shed 46 cents, or 1.8%, at $24.87 an ounce, following a weekly rise of 1.3% put in on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>Prices for the precious metal have fallen by roughly 8% so far this year, though have been trading in a \u201cfairly tight range\u201d on a sequential basis, analysts at ICICI Bank, wrote in a research note dated Monday. <\/p>\n<div id=\"cx-membership-tile\"><\/div>\n<p><strong>Read:<\/strong> Why gold\u2019s biggest quarterly drop in 4 years doesn\u2019t mark the end of its bull cycle<\/p>\n<p>The ICICI Bank analysts see a \u201cfairly flat trajectory\u201d for gold prices over the second quarter of this year as investors wait for more guidance on when the Federal Open Market Committee may consider hiking interest rates.<\/p>\n<p>Looking further ahead, however, the analysts said gold may fall over the course of the second half of this year, \u201creflecting a rise in U.S. yields and improving global growth prospects that will in turn work to limit demand for a \u2018safe-haven\u2019 asset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The analysts expect gold prices to trade in the $1,650 to $1,800 range over the second quarter, with prices potentially correcting lower to a range of $1,550 to $1,650 by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Gold investors also eyed <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> out of China. During a symposium last week, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang asked to strengthen market regulation of raw materials to ease the cost pressure of companies, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/asia-ironore\/update-1-china-steel-futures-tumble-on-concerns-of-government-controls-idUKL1N2M50E7\" class=\"icon none\">Reuters reported<\/a>, citing an article from the Xinhua News Agency. <\/p>\n<p>That offers a \u201csign of rising, and possibly problematic, price inflation from the world\u2019s major economies,\u201d Jim Wyckoff, senior analyst at Kitco.com. \u201cReports also say China\u2019s central bank wants to tighten lending standards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Against that backdrop, prices for copper traded lower as well. May copper<br \/>\n        HGK21,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/210056589\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-0.43%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       shed 0.5% to $4.02 a pound. <\/p>\n<p>July platinum<br \/>\n        PLN21,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/218196645\/delayed\" class=\"negative\">-2.84%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       lost nearly 2.9% to $1,174.80 an ounce, while June palladium<br \/>\n        PAM21,<br \/>\n        <bg-quote field=\"percentchange\" format=\"0,000.00%\" channel=\"\/zigman2\/quotes\/217647915\/delayed\" class=\"positive\">+1.31%<\/bg-quote><br \/>\n       settled at $2,671.90 an ounce, up 1.4%.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"byline article__byline\">\n<p>      <span>By<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"author  hasMenu\" data-scrim='{\"type\":\"author\",\"header\":\"Myra P.
