Developer Neil Sardesai has done it again. The iOS engineer, who found a way to play Pong<\/em> in the macOS Dock, is now playing Flappy Bird<\/em><\/a> in a macOS notification window. The game<\/a> isn\u2019t available for others to download, though experienced developers should have no trouble recreating it.<\/p>\n

The Flappy Bird<\/em> notification isn\u2019t a port or a hack. It\u2019s just an interactive notification that loads a browser-based clone<\/a> of Flappy Bird<\/em>. According to Sardesai, the game relies on iOS extension frameworks that Apple added to macOS with the release of Big Sur, so it\u2019s totally legit and doesn\u2019t require any crazy workarounds.<\/p>\n

Developers familiar with iOS, and specifically the User Notifications UI framework<\/a>, should be able to recreate Sardesai\u2019s game or develop their own notification games. That said, the process may be a bit tedious, as you have to develop your notification extension for iOS before porting it<\/a> to the Mac.<\/p>\n

Neil Sardesai\u2019s Twitter<\/a> is full of weird macOS software, including a version of the Chrome\u00a0Dinosaur<\/em> game<\/a> that plays in the Mac Menu bar and a Matrix<\/em>-inspired background<\/a> that replicates what you type.
