{"id":22541,"date":"2020-07-07T20:16:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T17:16:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/twins-conjoined-at-the-head-separated-successfully-in-italy\/"},"modified":"2020-07-07T20:16:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T17:16:00","slug":"twins-conjoined-at-the-head-separated-successfully-in-italy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/twins-conjoined-at-the-head-separated-successfully-in-italy\/","title":{"rendered":"#Twins conjoined at the head separated successfully in Italy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#Twins conjoined at the head separated successfully in Italy<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"article-wrapper\" role=\"main\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>        July 7, 2020 <span>|<\/span> 1:16pm          <\/p>\n<p>                <span><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y9r2j1yrXbE?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;fs=1&#038;autohide=2&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;wmode=transparent\" title=\"Video\" width=\"640\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n                        Two-year-old conjoined twins who had been joined above the nape of their necks were successfully separated in what an Italian hospital said was a first-of-its-kind operation, according to a report.<\/p>\n<p>Ervina and Prefina were born with a condition the Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Ges\u00f9 in Rome described Tuesday as \u201cone of the rarest and most complex forms of cranial and cerebral fusion,\u201d Agence France-Presse reported.<\/p>\n<p>The facility \u2014 whose name translates to Baby Jesus Pediatric Hospital \u2014 said it was the first time in Italy and likely the world that surgeons were able to separate twins who shared the back of their skull and its venous system.<\/p>\n<p>The two sisters were brought to Italy in September 2018 from Bangui, Central African Republic, after the hospital\u2019s president met the babies and their mom where they were born, according to AFP.<\/p>\n<p>Medical tests showed the girls to be <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a>ly in good health, but one sister\u2019s heart was working harder to maintain the \u201cphysiological balance of the organs of both, including the brain,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The twins had \u201cdistinct\u201d personalities, with Prefina being vivacious and playful while Ervina was more serious and quietly observing, according to the hospital.<\/p>\n<p>The greatest challenge facing doctors was the shared network of blood vessels bringing blood from the girls\u2019 brains to their hearts, the hospital said.<\/p>\n<p>That required \u201cthree very delicate operations to progressively reconstruct two independent venous systems,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>On June 5, the twins underwent the final operation, which took 18 hours and included 30 doctors and nurses who worked to divide the bones of the shared skull.<\/p>\n<p>The surgeons then reconstructed the membrane covering the two brains and recreated the skin lining over the girls\u2019 new skulls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA month after the final separation, the twins are fine,\u201d said the hospital, which shared a video of a party it threw on June 29 for their second birthday.<\/p>\n<p>They are seen, their heads wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp;
