DUNEDIN, Fla. \u2014 Rougned Odor\u2019s stint with the Yankees has gotten off to a promising start.<\/p>\n

After providing the go-ahead hit in Sunday\u2019s win over the Rays, Odor sparked the Yankees\u2019 offense in Monday\u2019s 3-1 win over the Blue Jays with a one-out single in the fifth.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll his at-bats were pretty competitive,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cI liked how he moved in the field and turned a nice double play. He\u2019s gonna play and get opportunities. It\u2019s a day-to-day thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday, that meant Boone went with the same infield configuration, with Odor at second and DJ LeMahieu at first base.<\/p>\n

And the lefty-swinging Odor delivered three of the hardest-hit balls of the night, including the Yankees\u2019 first hit against southpaw Robbie Ray.<\/p>\n

While Jay Bruce has looked shaky at the plate and at first base, Boone said the veteran would get \u201cback in there at some point.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the meantime, they want to get a closer look at Odor, who was acquired in a trade after being designated for assignment by the Rangers before Opening Day. And Boone also praised the \u201clittle bit of an edge and hunger he plays with. It\u2019s been cool to see.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boone noted Odor is young and has a good \u201cfirst step\u201d at second base.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like the at-bat quality has been there,\u2019\u2019 Boone said. \u201cHe\u2019s had hard-hit balls and like the energy he brings to the field every day and the hunger he\u2019s playing the game<\/a> with. He\u2019s handled himself well at second base. He\u2019s earned some opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boone said the conditions were \u201cpretty good\u201d at TD Ballpark, the Single-A stadium where the Blue Jays are playing their home games due to Canada\u2019s COVID-19 restrictions.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt didn\u2019t feel like spring training,\u2019\u2019 Boone said of Toronto\u2019s spring training site. \u201cIt felt like a real game.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lower decks of the stadium made it challenging for both hitters and fielders at twilight, Boone said.<\/p>\n

Gerrit Cole said it was \u201cfine.\u201d<\/p>\n
