The final 12 was just announced on \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d \u2014 and one contestant didn\u2019t even give viewers the chance to kick him off the show.<\/p>\n

Standout singer Wyatt Pike was missing from the venerable reality TV singing competition on Monday night\u2019s first live episode of the season.<\/p>\n

Host Ryan Seacrest announced without ceremony that Pike had quit the talent show with a brief on-stage statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore we get to the results, I have to tell you that finalist Wyatt Pike will not be competing in the competition,\u201d said Seacrest, 46. \u201cHe had to drop out \u2014 but we wish him the very best.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pike, a 19-year-old from Park City, Utah, left the show for that old showbiz standby \u2014 \u201cpersonal reasons\u201d \u2014 a rep for \u201cAmerican Idol\u201d told People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cWyatt could not continue \u2026 and we cannot comment further,\u201d a show spokesperson confirmed<\/a> to the Washington Post.<\/p>\n

The mysterious departure came on the heels of the young performer\u2019s show-stopping moment: On Sunday\u2019s pre-taped show, Pike wowed the judges panel with his confident rendition of the Kings of Leon\u2019s 2008 hit \u201cUse Somebody.\u201d<\/p>\n

After that spirited performance, judge Lionel Richie, 71, said Pike had \u201ca style on stage that we like to watch,\u201d and predicted he was on his way to \u201csomething big.\u201d Meanwhile, Katy Perry went to so far as to proclaim that the young singer had \u201ca little bit of an angle in this competition [because] you\u2019re an authentic singer-writer.\u201d<\/p>\n

Perry, 36, continued, \u201cI think whatever happ<\/a>ens \u2014 you\u2019re it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finally, Luke Bryan \u2014 who was out Monday due to a positive COVID-19 test, with O.G. A.I. judge Paula Abdul filling in for him \u2014 made what now seems like a somewhat prescient statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember one of the coolest things ever happened to me is the day I realized that I get to do music forever, under any circumstance,\u201d Bryan, 44, told Pike. \u201cI\u2019m telling you, Wyatt, you are going to be able to do music for the rest of your life.\u201d<\/p>\n

While no other details about his abrupt departure have been revealed, Pike might have teased his early exit from the show in an Instagram post several days ago from his home state of Utah.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomething to feel this through: home,\u201d he wrote<\/a>. \u201cThankful for the rollercoaster I\u2019m on today.\u201d<\/p>\n
