Economist: Don\u2019t Raise Corporate Taxes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even if President Biden wanted to raise revenue to address America\u2019s \u201cmountain of debt\u201d (rather than for his dubious $2.3 trillion \u201cinfrastructure\u201d plan), hiking corporate taxes \u201cis the wrong way to go about it,\u201d contends Allison Schrager at City Journal<\/a>. The Trump tax cuts led to \u201ca significant repatriation of profits\u201d that companies had kept overseas, and wages grew faster than in a decade. Also, taxes that lower corporate earnings will \u201cdirectly\u201d hurt the half of all Americans who own stock. Plus, investors will now be \u201cmaking decisions under a cloud,\u201d wondering if rates will change with every president. If corporations don\u2019t pay enough, it\u2019s because \u201cthe tax system is too complex,\u201d filled with \u201chundreds of potential deductions and loopholes.\u201d To raise revenue, Biden should \u201csimplify the maze,\u201d while \u201ckeeping rates low.\u201d<\/p>\n

Conservative: Border\u2019s Worse Than You Think<\/strong><\/p>\n

The feds\u2019 response to the surge of illegal border-crossings has been \u201centirely improvised\u201d since President Biden \u201cthrew out key policies with nothing ready to replace them,\u201d laments the Washington Examiner\u2019s Byron York<\/a>. Scrapp<\/a>ing the Trump remain-in-Mexico policy and other deterrents has \u201copened the door to would-be illegal crossers\u201d and left the border\u2019s guardians \u201coverwhelmed and increasingly giving way to bureaucratic pressure to let most people in.\u201d Texas has recruited state law enforcement to fill in the gaps, while the Border Patrol is busy with migrant children and trying to \u201ckeep up the traditional work of protecting the border, even if the president of the United States doesn\u2019t really want to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Foreign desk: Who\u2019s Spilling Israeli Secrets?<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s \u201cnot hard to imagine the Biden administration playing a role in such leaks,\u201d given its desperation to revivify the 2015 nuclear deal.<\/p>\n

Tech beat: Twitter Covers for BLM<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat,\u201d John Fund asks at National Review<\/a>, \u201cexplains Twitter\u2019s censorship of Jason Whitlock, an African-American sports commentator formerly of ESPN?\u201d He\u2019d \u201cposted a link to a real-estate blog showing that Patrisse Khan-Cullors, a Black Lives Matter co-founder, was buying a $1.4 million home in a secluded Los Angeles neighborhood, where only 1.4 percent of residents are black,\u201d then \u201chad some fun zinging the self-described \u2018trained Marxist\u2019 ideologue for her hypocrisy.\u201d Twitter\u2019s move to make the post \u201cno longer available\u201d is strange, says Fund, since \u201cmany former supporters of BLM believe that it\u2019s time for Khan-Cullors and the other co-founders to answer basic questions.\u201d The head of New York City\u2019s BLM chapter \u201cis calling for an independent investigation into BLM\u2019s finances.\u201d And \u201cKhan-Cullors isn\u2019t the only left-wing figure to get soft treatment and protection from Big Tech. Recall that Twitter shut down the New York Post\u2019s account\u201d over its Hunter Biden scoops.<\/p>\n

Media watch: Times Beclowns Itself on Court<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Biden will create a panel to study expanding the Supreme Court in an effort to balance the conservative majority created by Donald Trump.\u201d That was how The New York Times summed up what is obviously \u201ca commission to radically change the high court in what could ultimately go down as one of the most radical acts carried out by a US president,\u201d scoffs Jon Concha at The Hill<\/a>. The notion that court-packing is about \u201cbalancing\u201d the Supremes is \u201cjust about the best unintentional comedy you\u2019ll see out there. And ask yourself this: If the roles were reversed,\u201d and Trump moved toward packing the high court, \u201cwould the Times frame it the same way? Rhetorical question.\u201d <\/p>\n
