\n The windows on the bus should<\/em> go up and down, up and down.<\/p>\n

City bus drivers are being directed to open windows and hatches on local routes to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to internal documents.<\/p>\n

\u201cBus operators are permitted to operate local buses in service with windows and roof hatches open in order to increase ventilation when weather permits,\u201d according to a June 23 internal bulletin titled \u201cIncreased ventilation in local buses.\u201d<\/p>\n

The memo obtained by The Post encourages drivers to \u201copen windows to the extent it can be done,\u201d as well as roof hatches, \u201cduring the pre-trip<\/a> inspection.\u201d<\/p>\n

But hatches on express buses cannot be open \u201cdue to insufficient height clearance\u201d in the Lincoln, Holland, Brooklyn-Battery and Queens-Midtown tunnels, the memo says.<\/p>\n

Bus ridership has rebounded faster than subway ridership amid the pandemic.<\/p>\n

Even as subway ridership crept over 1 million last week for the first time since March, bus ridership outpaced it on all but one day.<\/p>\n

Speaking on NY1 Tuesday morning, Interim Transit President Sarah Feinberg pointed to windows as one possible app<\/a>eal for riders opting to take buses.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, we\u2019ve also got windows that are open on buses so there\u2019s a lot of fresh air circulating. I think right now it\u2019s kind of personal preference,\u201d Feinberg said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI personally take the subway system, others prefer the bus.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
