A viral clip of the NYPD\u2019s new robotic \u201cDigidog\u201d had the internet chasing its tail over whether the dystopian \u201cfuture\u201d of science<\/a> fiction has already arrived.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy the time my kids are old enough to watch Black Mirror it\u2019s going to be a documentary series<\/a>,\u201d Twitter<\/a> user @hella_leigh posted Tuesday<\/a> along with the video, which shows cops ushering around a robo-dog during an arrest at a city housing project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never seen nothing like this before in my life. You seeing this?\u201d asks the woman in the original TikTok video. <\/p>\n

\u201cOoh, that sh-t move better than a dog!\u201d she exclaims. \u201cThat\u2019s R2D2!\u201d<\/p>\n

An NYPD rep said the clip showed the arrest of 41-year-old Luis Gonzales after police responded to a 911 call regarding a domestic dispute and possible firearm and hostage situation at 344 East 28th Street in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

Cops arrived to the scene to find Gonzales sequestered inside an apartment with a mother and baby, who exited unharmed, the NYPD said. Gonzalez was app<\/a>rehended after about two hours of negotiations. <\/p>\n

The dog \u201cwas not utilized,\u201d the rep said.<\/p>\n

NYPD\u2019s use of robots has come under scrutiny since the first \u201cDigidog\u201d sighting in the Bronx in February, seemingly out of nowhere. The machine\u2019s use drew fire from local politicians including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who called the four-legged crime fighter a \u201crobotic surveillance ground drone.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cDigidog\u201d is technically unarmed. City Councilman Ben Kallos last month introduced legislation to ban NYPD from using \u201cweaponized\u201d robots.<\/p>\n
