“#New Jersey residents peeved about spot on US state-ranking poll<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

A survey released on Tuesday found that New Jersey is one of the worst states in the nation \u2014 but Garden State fans said \u201cfuggedaboutit!\u201d <\/p>\n

The poll from data analytics firm\u00a0YouGov<\/a> ranked New Jersey No. 48 out of 50, above only Mississippi and Alabama.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew Jersey is often the butt of jokes, including for its\u00a0occasional odor\u00a0or for being the birthplace of \u2018The Jersey Shore\u2019 franchise,\u201d the researchers explained.<\/p>\n

For the study, 1,211\u00a0US adults were asked to choose the better of two states in a series<\/a> of head-to-head matchups. <\/p>\n

Researchers then ranked the states, and Washington, DC, (which was last) based on their \u201cwin percentage.\u201d <\/p>\n

Beachy Hawaii got the top spot with 69 percent, followed by Colorado and Virginia, which had 65 and 64 percent respectively. <\/p>\n

New York was No. 8 with 58 percent, coming in above California which ranked 12th but below Florida which got the 6th spot.<\/p>\n

Jersey, by comparison, came in at just 39 percent. <\/p>\n

Locals didn\u2019t take the diss lying down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWow- that is insane about NJ\u2026 we are not to be ranked with Alabama and Mississippi,\u201d one person tweeted<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Another user wondered<\/a>, \u201cwhat does PA have that NJ does not,\u201d to which someone responded, \u201cteeth.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIts not our fault Jersey smells so bad and is a state of endless tolls,\u201d one person whined<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A reporter for HuffPost even app<\/a>eared to blame the Empire State, writing <\/a>that Jersey\u2019s ranking was \u201ca travesty and a result of New York-centric propaganda.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Jersey\u2019s official Twitter<\/a> account also chimed in, posting <\/a>a photo of a flag that read \u201cWe don\u2019t like you either.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, some argued Jersey\u2019s ranking was actually too high \u2014 and the state event got dunked on by someone from Florida.<\/p>\n
