A large commercial boat with nearly 20 people aboard capsized in the Gulf of Mexico south of Grand Isle, La.<\/p>\n

Six people have been rescued from the flipped 265-foot boat by the Coast Guard and several private boats, federal officials said<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The lift boat was carrying 18 people when it flipped, Nola.com reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The accident reportedly happ<\/a>ened around 4:30 p.m., as a powerful storm battered the New Orleans area.<\/p>\n

Wind gusts of up to 75 mph resulted in storm surges of two feet, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

Jefferson Parish officials told the website that multiple vessels were shipwrecked off Grand Isle, and buildings were damaged by the viscous storm.<\/p>\n
