During a recent sit-down with the <em>Cigar Talk<\/em> podcast, veteran Hot 97 radio personality Funk Flex admitted he may have played a role in fanning the flames all for clout, explaining he was following the blueprint laid out by Kool DJ Red Alert, MC Shan and KRS-One in the 1980s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI gotta be honest, I kind of bit that whole routine, or\u00a0my involvement,\u201d he says around the 36:25-mark. \u201cI was copying, watching Red Alert and MC Shan and KRS-One. And I watched people throw the flame on it and I said, \u2018If I throw the flame on it, this can be one of those.\u2019 \u2026 I ain\u2019t gonna lie, I wanted to be in the history book like Red Alert and Shan and KRS-One.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know what, Meek was always in a cheerful phase about [it]\u2014he wasn\u2019t overly stressed [at that time]. Because I think he wasn\u2019t. It was funny\u2026when I didn\u2019t have the record, I wanna say I feel maybe me and Meek must have had miscommunication on the song, or what it was gonna be.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"DJ Funk Flex describes first time meeting DMX, role in Drake Meek battle, Cardi B bars, IFWT &amp; more\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bx9xaO1P0PU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Drake and Meek Mill\u2019s discourse kicked off after Meek accused the 6 God of using ghostwriters. At one point during their rift, Funk Flex played a reference track\u00a0for \u201c10 Bands\u201d on-air as further proof Meek\u2019s accusations of Drake using a ghostwriter were true.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, Drake responded with \u201cCharged Up\u201d and \u201cBack To Back\u201d in just a few days\u2019 time. Meek later responded with \u201cWanna Know,\u201d which Funk Flex had planned to premiere\u00a0on Hot 97, but it never happened.<\/p>\n<p>In an\u00a0interview with<em> Ebro In The Morning<\/em>\u00a0in July 2017, Meek admitted\u00a0he\u00a0was \u201cout of control\u201d with the whole thing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe way I was coming at everybody, I offended a lot of people at that point,\u201d he said. \u201cEven the way I was talking, the stuff I said \u2026 We had little things that I ain\u2019t really agree with that I didn\u2019t feel. And when I\u2019m off the shits, I\u2019m just off the shits. I\u2019m just coming a thousand miles an hour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t give a fuck about nobody, how I was coming. And me as a person now when I\u2019m not like that\u2026I think I could have approached things better. It is what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two were ultimately able to squash their issues at a Boston concert in September 2018 when the OVO Sound superstar brought out the Philly rapper during a show at the TD Garden and shaking hands onstage.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to Charlamagne Tha God in December 2019, Meek confessed he didn\u2019t know why he dissed Drake in the first place and partially blamed it on his addiction to prescription pain killers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you ask me about like why I came at Drake \u2026 I don\u2019t even fuckin really, really, really know. Like, everybody be saying Nicki and shit, that wasn\u2019t the case.\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m making very bad decisions here and not knowing that I\u2019m making these bad decisions.
