DUNEDIN, Fla. \u2014 Aaron Boone said he and his staff \u201cspent a lot of time\u201d with Gary Sanchez, reviewing the play that helped kill the Yankees\u2019 comeback hopes on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Sanchez was thrown out to end the eighth inning when he was caught between first and second on a wild pitch with Aaron Hicks at the plate representing the tying run.<\/p>\n

\u201cGary was in a really tough spot there,\u201d Boone said of the play. Toronto catcher Danny Jansen quickly pounced on a wild pitch and threw to first. Sanchez was tagged out by shortstop Bo Bichette with Giancarlo Stanton moving from second to third.<\/p>\n

Boone said Stanton had some \u201chesitation\u201d going to third, which threw off Sanchez.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the trail runner there, it\u2019s almost like a double steal: When that guy leaves from second to go to third, you follow him,\u201d Boone said. \u201cIf there\u2019s hesitation or that guy stops, you get out in no man\u2019s land.\u201d<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s the third time on the road trip<\/a> in which Sanchez has been involved in a baserunning mishap, and this one was especially costly.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes, because it surrounds Gary, and the timing, being down [three] runs, you don\u2019t want to get thrown out on the bases,\u201d said Boone, who called it \u201ca bad look.\u201d<\/p>\n
