Dave Bautista<\/strong> is tracking down the\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em><\/strong>. The\u00a0Army of the Dead<\/em>\u00a0star is starring in a new action adventure flick directed by\u00a0Rampage<\/em> helmer\u00a0Brad Peyton<\/strong>, which has recently been acquired by STXfilms.<\/p>\n

As one of the stars of Guardians of the Galaxy<\/em>, Dave Bautista knows a thing or two about aliens, so why not hunt them? That\u2019s what he\u2019ll be doing in his newest feature film project,\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em>, a sci-fi adventure movie directed by\u00a0Brad Peyton<\/strong>, who has helmed disaster flicks like\u00a0Rampage<\/em> and\u00a0San Andreas<\/em>.
\nBautista stars as an \u201cintergalactic peacekeeper\u201d who is hunting a group of ragtag alien prisoners in a film that has been newly acquired by STXfilms, which last teamed up with the actor for the action-comedy My Spy<\/em>, which was an apparent streaming hit for Amazon and is currently having a sequel developed. Peyton will direct a script<\/a> by\u00a0F. Scott Frazier<\/strong> (xXx: Return of Xander Cage<\/em>) and Jimmy Loweree<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the synopsis for\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em>, via the press release:<\/p>\n

In\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted, a small town gets a big surprise when a spaceship carrying the universe\u2019s most wanted and dangerous criminals crash lands in their backyard. Soon the sheriff and his son become heroes when they find themselves helping an intergalactic peacekeeper (Bautista) to keep the ragtag group of alien prisoners from escaping and taking over the world.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The movie sounds slightly smaller-scale than Peyton\u2019s last few movies<\/a>, both of which are disaster movies of the near-global scale (Rampage<\/em> threw in a monster movie twist, too). Not that this isn\u2019t big \u2014 it\u2019s still a huge bombastic sci-fi action flick \u2014 but the small-town setting and the \u201cragtag\u201d group sounds comparatively refreshing. And Bautista in the leading man role is a great sell, even if the movies around him aren\u2019t always as great as he is.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I first read Scott and Jimmy\u2019s script, I was sold, as it\u2019s the exact type of big, fun sci-fi tentpole I\u2019ve been looking to do,\u201d Peyton said. \u201cWhat struck me the most was how much heart it had and how much nostalgia it triggered. It reminds me of the great Amblin movies of my childhood. Dave agreeing to play the lead was the icing on the cake.\u201d
\nPeyton will also produce\u00a0Universe\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em>\u00a0via his production company ASAP Entertainment, along with ASAP\u2019s Jeff Fierson<\/strong>. In addition to starring, Bautista will produce via his production company Dream Bros Entertainment, along with Dream Bros\u2019 Jonathan Meisner<\/strong>. The film will also be produced by AGC Studios\u2019\u00a0Stuart Ford<\/strong>. AGC\u2019s Miguel Palos Jr.<\/strong> and Linda McDonough<\/strong> are executive producing alongside Carsten Lorenz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Universal\u2019s Most Wanted<\/em> is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to\u00a0begin shooting in Melbourne, Australia in late July.<\/p>\n
